Adding insult to injury!

Adding insult to injury!
Kicking you when you are down!
Rubbing salt into the wound!
Taking the p**s!

Add your own phrase for what you feel best describes the offering we got from The Pompey Site on Thursday - when it returned online after being pulled for non-payments for a few hours.

What am I talking about you might say?

Well, it is this little number about Asmir Begovic...

Amazing Asmir

Before this season Asmir Begovic had made just two Premier League appearances.

But anyone watching him make a string of fine saves against West Ham on Tuesday night could be forgiven for thinking he had been protecting Pompey`s goal for years.

The 22-year-old Bosnia keeper has featured 15 times for the Blues in all competitions this season - looking more assured with every one.

And he was in inspired form against the Hammers, making superb saves to deny Frank Nouble, Alessandro Diamanti and Jack Collison.

"It all happened very quickly," Begovic told pfcTV. "But that's what I'm there for and luckily I was able to make the saves.

"We were confident and looking to get the three points - but unfortunately it wasn't to be.

"We had a lot of the ball but they threatened a few times. We've got to take the positives - we didn't lose.

"I'm getting used to the pace of the game which is very high at this level.

"I'm enjoying it and learning all the time. I've got a great coach in David Coles who always keeps me on my toes."

You were not the only one enjoying Asmir, you were one of the shining lights in an otherwise miserable season yet you, and apparently without your say so let alone the managers, are being shipped off to be a no.2 for the foreseeable future I would guess?

Rub it in a little more eh, the guy 'looks' like he will be sold - and most likely at a knockdown price - to Spurs yet we continue to big him up!

I would almost put money on David Coles moving onto Spurs, not that I am having a pop at them to be fair, soon enough - to be honest I have always been surprised that is has not happened already.

Although I am sure there is still time to include him in some deal, even though technically Begovic should not be allowed to joined Spurs as (and as was pointed out by someone in the forum) a lower league club was denied permission to do this earlier in the week do to the '3 team rule'...

Then again the premier league plays by its own rules!

why is it that our interest in Begovic is insulting you??? That only means he is a quality keeper. The financial troubles you are in, are not caused by Tottenham or any other club that wants to buy your players. I'm sympathizing with your situation, but put credit where it's due. Your board made all the decisions, so the decision on how to take Portsmouth out of this mess, falls only on the board, so anyone we buy can only increase the money you gain. This is one solution, others are known only to your board...

I'm really concerned for the future of Pompey. HMRC are out to make an example out of us, http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/mattslater/2010/01/taxing_times_for_footballs_fri.html

maybe we will buy him and leave him there on loan untill the summer at least that will give you some cash to pay people. all this moaning about us taking your players but if us or someone else dosen,t you wont have a club anymore its gone beyond who is at fault for this debarcle thats going on and time to save whats a great club with superb support and try to keep yourself in football, i for one really hope you do and whatever you think of our club get over it and pray you are around at the end of the season (fingers and everything else crossed for you) COYS and coyp

to make it clear to spurs fans, i am NOT saying that spurs are adding insult to injury, i am saying that pompey's own official website is adding insult to injury by running a feature on 'amazing asmir' when we are looking to flog him!

tbh Rug I also don't see the point of your rant. It's fair to 'big him up' because he's shown he's a class goalie. Whoever writes on the site is not the owner of the club - the owner is desperately trying to balance the books.

vangogo it's not Spurs interest that is insulting us although they always seem to be sniffing around when they think they can get a player for much less than they are worth. It's the so called board of Portsmouth Football Club that are insulting us. When you consider the money that has been raked in in transfers over the last couple of seasons we should not be in a position of needing to sell on the cheap. Until now i had been taking the view that they were trying to put the club on a sound business footing but the longer this goes on the more it looks as if the club is being systematically stripped of all it's assets. We need some honesty now, tell us the facts how bad is the situation? I suspect that the fact that an interested party can not get access to the books in order to weigh up a takeover suggests that they are trying to hide the fact that things are not that bad until they've stripped the club bare. This theory is strengthened by the fact a convicted fraudster is trying to sell players with out including either the manager or the chief executive in the loop.

ps would we be selling him if Jamo had gone to Stoke?

Listening to the Quay, i dont think the wrong people are selling the players, just not dsicussing with the Others... and thats where the problem is, as 9/10th of the club are doing and saying one thing, while Danny Azougy is doing another. Not saying that is wrong, as his job is survival, and he has NO passion to get in the way, unlike Storrie and Grant who have a football team to worry about, Azougy has a Club to Save. Just dont see the benefits in selling Asmir, when David James is the one earning silly money for a club our size?

2 months ago, i said Azougy is only here to asset strip, and make sure club pays bills with out any concerns for future consequences. I was told i was a fool, but i had heard this and hoped it was wrong too... But now looks true. OK We all know we need a club to go forward, and if that means stepping back first so be it, but if his is to make it viable for Gadaffi or who ever to invest or buy, i hope its carried out well enough to enable good enough people to come into th club to ensure they have something worth buying, else we will sell the silverware and STILL not attract sell the club. Storrie as good as admitted that he has little faith in Faraj raising the money that he once assured him was there, and once the transfer window shuts, he thinkgs Faraj will be forced to sell.

Pompey are going under. Selling the family silver is not going to change that. Matt Ritchie is probably going to be sold for 10 pieces of silver this weekend. Our future is ****ed. Midge, I thought that Azougy was here to asset strp as well. Administration is inevitable but it would have been better at the start of January, rather than when it actually happens -next week I think. How is the administrator going to raise funds outside a transfer window? Liquidation of the club and the selling of Fratton Park for development. Our last match and probably defeat is going to be Feb 13th.

I only know the info that is served via the papers, but from I can see, this whole problem falls only on the new owner. he has a tone of money and the first thing he says when he takes your club is that he has a lot of money and that he will use it to make portsmouth a bigger club with star players who cost a lot a money. And what does he do next?? He sells every gifted player that he could. so now you are stuck not only in relegation battle, because of all the departures and not enough quality (expensive) players coming in, but also in debt, because the new owner does not want to use his millions to get HIS club out of trouble. This is my view, and if I said some facts wrong, I expect you Pourtsmouth fans to correct me, which is due fairly cause I don't know all the facts....

vangogo we don't know the facts either, when we're told one thing it's usually a lie and something else happens. I would not blame Storey or Grant for walking away now, if i could leave more than 30 years of being a fan behind me i'd walk away but it's just not that easy for fans a club is in your blood from the moment you attend your first game.

The earlier statement that Azougy is merely contracted by the owner is now utter rubbish. The fact that this convicted FRAUDSTER is now running transfer operations of our club should be enough for the FA and PREM League to say NO !!!! FFS - The executive Chairman, Director, and Manager know nothing about this, but still the FA / Prem let a convict run our club !!! I Despair.

I'm usually an optimist, start every season feeling it will be better than the last, attend each game expecting it to be better than i've ever seen before. Expect to win the lottery every week despite the fact i'm proved wrong every time. But even I can find no reason for optimism about the fate of the club anymore.
