O'Hara 'tops list' but who stays is crucial too

With the transfer ban lifted, to a degree, Peter Storrie has told BBC Radio 5 Live how this now gives everyone a boost and gives us a chance to bring in some players and do what we need to do to have a chance of staying up: '(The announcement) is major news, it means we can do something between now and the end of the window.

'It's a boost for Avram, a boost for the team and the supporters.

3 or 4 players arriving is what we are 'said' to be working on with Jamie O'Hara remaining the priority: 'we're looking to bring in two or three players, ideally four if we can and that would include bringing Jamie O'Hara back, which is our first priority now.'

'If we can bring in three or four we believe we have a chance of staying up.'

I would 'think' that O'Hara will be done and dusted in a fresh loan move pretty soon, so 'should' be back in time to feature against Citeh on Sunday?

I CANNOT believe that some people have been calling in The Quay etc and moaning that we can 'only' sign loan players and free agents - ok, it is not ideal but did we REALLY expect anything more?

We do not have the funds to bring players in so WHY add more debt to what we already have?

Also, and realistically, who is going to come to us anyway, on a permanent basis unless unattached? And more to the point what clubs would deal with us given the state we are in!

Lets just be happy with what we CAN do and see what it does for us over the next few days eh...

As for what Avram Grant thinks, well he has told sky sports that it is 'good news' but he wanted this from 'January 1' as it would have meant we went into the West Ham game 'with a full bench' had we signed 3 or 4 players.

To be honest I am not quite sure why we could not have named a full bench last night?

Either way he says we will 'try to do our best but we have only four days. It will be very difficult but we'll do it because the squad is very short.'

Although it is as much about 'who we keep' as much as 'who we sell' and keeping players also remains high on his list of priorities or he might have to play himself: 'if these players go, I would need to play, and I cannot play!

'To be serious, we want to stay in the league and we can do that.

'But we have a long way to go and we need every player we have now.'

Departures, at this point in time, do seem inevitable - well basically a necessity really, right?

I guess a lot depends on this latest 'takeover talk' and how serious it is?

'If' this is really happening, and it is expected that ANOTHER takeover will happen - but it WILL take time, and this in not just 'hot air' to try and calm things down, maybe push the prices of players up and relax fears over this and that then WHY would these 'possible' new owners want further departures to go?

As always we 'should' find out a little more about things in the next few days, this is what will ultimately shape our season once and for all...

when the embargo was lifted, did the EPL release the 1.6 mil to us? if so at least we should be able to pay the wages on friday lol

As much as I want to see it i'm not convinced by our ability to stay up, especially based on last nights lack lustre display. I'd take the £10m for Kaboul, secure our future to the end of the season (and maybe £5m for boateng after last night) and keep on battling. I'd love to keep Kaboul but the money is more important to us now, we can't be sure any deal will be completed to take us over by monday and if we can't get some money in we could be put out of business in 2 weeks once the window has closed.

if we had 10 kabouls, apart from being able to wipe off our debt, we'd also have a great team as on last night showing he can, and tries to, play anywhere

If they want to stay up Kaboul is a must keep. If they want to stay afloat then Kaboul might have to go !!! Staying up = £35M, and higher attendance, going down = parachute payments and 12,000 attendance ! All depends on what investment they can attract, or if someone else (with real money) is interested. ROCK and HARD PLACE.

Agreed with the principals of the article Rug, we need to keep most, maybe not jamo, mullins or mokoena; although you can't fault his attitude. Manager needs to grow some balls as well, not that 3 postings later I'm still flipping annoyed!
