Transfer Embargo Lifted

Not much time so just a link to confirm what The News are also breaking with..

Avram Grant has been given the green light to delve into the transfer market after Pompey's embargo was lifted.

he News can reveal the Premier League gave the Blues the thumbs up after noon, having received satisfactory documentation from Udinese.

The Italian club have come to an agreement with Pompey over money owed for Sulley Muntari and that has been rubberstamped by league chiefs.

They will also return around £1.6m owed to the Blues, Sky television money they had previously withheld.

It means finally, after 103 days of waiting, the Blues can register players once again.

And executive director Mark Jacob was delighted with the news.

He told The News: 'We have been working very, very hard behind the scenes and are delighted the embargo has now been lifted.

'It will now enable Avram Grant to strengthen the squad where necessary.

'This is another piece of the jigsaw we are trying to put back together.

'I sincerely hope supporters can get fully behind the team tonight against West Ham for what is a crucial match and generate that Fratton fortress atmosphere once again.'

The Premier League are expected to confirm the transfer embargo has been lifted in an official statement this afternoon.

Well boys and girls we can deal ..but let's keep our feet firmly on the ground .. a few freebies and a few loanees is surely the best we can expect .. but then again anybody to bolster the ranks will be good right ?

Deadline for Grants "already agreed players" to be registered, so they could play tonight was rumoured to be 1:30pm, they removed embargo After 1:30? Not insinuating they are giving their beloved Hammers a helping hand, but stinks on the timing me thinks????

Could this be good news week???(fingers crossed) Last week was almost comical but this week..On Sunday we get a south coast derby in the cuo (first real 'yes! moment this season) Now today we get the emargo lifted. Even if this only means a few frees or loans it is good progress

Midge .. they said yes .. just after 12:30 I've heard..so I wouldn't expect anything sinister.. that said if there were lined up everything would be signed ready to go and it would just have to be faxed through.. Might get one (O'Hara) in time for Saturday though !

both lawro and hansen think we will win 2-1 tonight; always loved those two, me. jackastorrie says Jamo has an injury that might change the terms of any move to stoke, hmm not so good but i guess the club just wants to get his 160k per month off the books. i never thought i would say this but if it subsidises utaka to score goals then thats fine by me.

not sure about wilshire... thought a couple of the other youngesters were better in midfield when i saw them in CL action... Otherwise Man U, Chelsea and Man City have a few useful spare players we could loan in... I'd let FP or Dindane go if we got Benji back on loan... Anyone for Beattie... (ducks and cowers)

26/01/2010 14:41:00

Ye ha, lets go and get Torres on loan, alright perhaps not, but can always live in hope. lol. Typical of the PL though if the 1330 rule is correct and yet they couldnt even give us the opportunity to get O'Hara back in for tonight. Still if we get the 1.6m back from Sky money that will now pay the players wages this month and give us a team on Sunday.

Who knows what will happen! But hats off 2 Grant...what ever he has been thinking, good or bad does not matter! The fact that he has dealt with it all in a dignified manner, no complaints, bare bones nonsense etc! He has just done his job! Whatever he would chose to do does not matter, he seems 2 be a decent guy!

TRANSFER EMBARGO ONLY PARTIALLY LIFTED. The embargo is only enough to allow Loanees and FREE-transfers. I think we all knew that that is all we can afford (if that!). At least that is clear, and Prem Lge have confirmed this now. PUP

pompey cant afford the players we have so we need the best quality loanees out there, cant think of any freebies. brum favourites to get wilshire. i suppose the main benefit is 1.6 mill is now released to the club so we should be able to pay the players on Monday.

various reports have egyptian striker Mateab as a probable for pompey, LoL im off with conjunctivitus and instead of resting my eyes ive got TV, Radio and two screens monitoring the net. Ferdinand to be charged with violent conduct, if found guilty he will miss the pompey game-so only rooney, giggs et al to worry about then

i suspect the premier league were bricking it at the thought of a 'legal case' against them if they did not lift it and an arbitation court said they had to?
