Grant - James stays and WILL play?

Avram Grant has been pretty vocal recently about the fact that HE wants players, including David James, to stay and HE will make the decisions about who does stay and go...

Oh, if only it was that simple Avram!

Anyway, according to The Mail, even though there are no direct quotes from anyone, not even a 'so called source', they report that 'Grant has told James that, as well as wanting him to stay, he makes the football decisions at Portsmouth and will pick him as his first-choice goalkeeper, starting with this weekend's FA Cup clash at home to Sunderland.'

Portsmouth boss Avram Grant: I'll save David James' World Cup hopes - here.

It will be interesting to see if James is still here this weekend, let alone playing against Sunderland?

Some 'reports' have said that if James plays 1 more game he will trigger a clause in his contract that will earn him a new 1-year contract, The Mail 'claims' that he can play 9 more games before this comes into play?

I do not know, it 'seems' pretty obvious that we cannot afford to keep him, and most definitely could not afford to keep him next season - at this rate - even less so 'should' relegation be confirmed!

So, all that is left to say is 'time will tell' I guess...

if james is here when we play sunderland, then avram will play him. If he doesn't play him, then jamo will just get the impression he's not wanted - and then we'd end up having to accept some stupid offer like the one stoke made.

spurs had a bid rejected for foster today if they cant get him then they will come calling for james...

I wonder how much Avram is actually in touch with the board and how much he actually knows about the current situation and the Embargo and what if any money will be available in the next couple of weeks, I cant wait for the next two weeks to be over, at least then we will know the state of play, and if that means we are basically F***** then so be it, at least we will know and can move on with the relegation, I hope that this doesnt happen and the wheels start moving hard and fast shortly, but with the way things are I just cant see it, I think I have finally lost the will to get stressed about it all, roll on February! Good article as always Rug, hope you and the guys all good, thanks again!

Dont you just hate that!!!!!

If James plays that means he is cup tied and his value drops by a chunky figure. On form the only reasons I can see him playing ahead of AB is if they want to put him the shop window or to start him playing regular games for his England career, other wise Asimir is becoming a good solid reliable keeper. oh blow have I just put the kybosch on I'm

Our best keeper has to play - If that triggers a contrat extension theb we have to honour it .. I can understand wanting to offload him (makes sense) but if we can't it's surely better to play him - He has won us many points during his time at Pompey and although Asmir is the future he ain't no David James... yet

Didn't Jacobs say a week or two back that players would only be sold with AG's agreement?
PFCblue
The James affair, could be "AG's" way out. That would be the end of everything.

Avram has to make the decisions, i think the goalie is probably the most critical position for us, so keep the england number 1 and get him playing. Avram would probably be able to recommend who he wants to get rid of. Kaboul can go for £10 mill, we could probably buy a defender and a striker for that.

If we get £10 million for Kaboul, we won't be buying any players with it. It will go towards players wages and HRMC and perhaps some other clubs we owe money to and may stave off administration another month or so. In any case, we're not allowed to buy anyone and the embargo aint gonna be lifted before the end of the transfer window. I would be delighted if James stays, and if he does he should play, although accept that he might have to leave.
