'If It's Football, It's Vital'

'Baseless' Utaka to Celtic rumour?

I think that we all know that John Utaka is a player that Pompey, in all honesty, would want rid of - not so much because he has failed to live up to expectation on the whole since his £7m arrival, which would be argument enough, but almost certainly more so due to his massive wages!

We also know that 'on the whole' when BBC sport says something, more often than not there is some basis to it, right?

Although, this time with an article titled Celtic aim to sign Portsmouth striker John Utaka - here, the claims do not really seem to have a lot of basis?

There are no direct quotes, there is no real evidence or anything so simply saying the following does not really say anything: 'Portsmouth's 25-year-old Nigeria striker John Utaka is a target for Celtic manager Tony Mowbray.

'Utaka arrived at Fratton Park from French League side Rennes in 2007 on a four-year deal for a reported £7m.

'Cash-strapped Portsmouth are keen to offload players, although Utaka's wage demands could be a barrier.'

That said this is something that has been doing the rounds for a while now...

Although I think it is summed up perfectly at the very end though with the 'wage demands could be a barrier' thoughts - I cannot see Celtic coming anywhere near what he would want/is reportedly 'earning' and could only, at best, see a 50:50 split in a loan move.
