SAF 'sets up' striker deal...

Hopes that our transfer embargo could be lifted in the not to distant future have been raised by some recent comments - although as it stands we do still have this in place...

Despite this fact it was today 'claimed' in The Sunday People that a deal 'has been agreed' for Egyptian striker Emad Metab.

This deal is 'said' to have been 'set up' by SAF, who is also 'said' to still be working on a deal for Amr Zaki as well - although he made it clear he did not want to sign for us back along, right...

'Apparently' the 26-year-old, Metab that is, who plays for Al-Ahly is someone that Avram Grant 'admires' and would like to sign for 1.2m when the transfer embargo is lifted, which Grant has 'allegedly' been told will be the case before the end of the month - although to be fair we too have also been told this is something 'we hope' will be the case.

The fact remains that until this embargo is lifted talk of players signing is nothing more than talk, although Grant has himself said that deals are being lined up - so I am sure that, funds permitting and this embargo being lifted, he will soon move for these players that you would imagine would be wrapped up quickly...

As always all we can do is wait and see.

No! lol
pompeyfcmad
You've got anough money as it is.
pompeyfcmad
Does this mean Belhadj and Yebda are leaving? Or are the Egyptians ok about mixing with Algerians all of a sudden. To be fair, was it just Zaki either being brain dead or misreported...?
hammersmithblue
googled him: first site "Emad Metab signs for bristol city". a move that never came off, as after a fee had been agreed, signed a contract, and got a work permit, he went on to play for Al Ahly in the african champions league.

to make things more confusing, I think his surname seems to vary between "metab" and "Moteab"... anyway, over the years, he's won quite a bit - Egyptian Premier League Top Goalscorer 2004/05. Named the best striker in Africa in 2005. Named Second best Striker in Africa in 2006. the problem is, he hasn't done anything remarkable since then. And no, I don't count winning the saudi premier league last year as "remarkable".
pompeycarpet
so my point is - after having won all those things between 2004-2006, why was it that only bristol rovers were intrested in 2008, and what has changes so massivly since then to make him a premiership striker?
pompeycarpet
Sounds like a certain pie-eating Zambian!!
Tantona
to be fair he looks good . done well in african cup of nations and nows where the net is. Maybe Emad Moteab + benni mcCarthy upfront ?

oh time will see. All depends on the embargo being lifted. Again camels & clowns replacing the lions & tigers.

I don't know why we discuss rumours like this until the embargo is lifted. Look at the players we've been rumoured to have 'lined up' since the beginning of December - all a waste of precious breath. (and yes! I'm in a bad mood, sorry).

Grant has already been wuoted as saying he only wants existing 'premiership' players as foreign players take too long to settle.. But I suppose he would accept anything...in the event he has no transfer cash... Embargo to be lifted anyway? I think not...the League will not take a chance on more Pompey renages...unless we SELL FIRST and show we have some cash from Kaboul (7 million)...but time will have run out.. Smacks of the last transfer window when we had to buy/loan players within 48 hours of the window closing... All stable and management...(I think not)...especially as the owners AND GRANT (he has quoted) expect us to stay up!! Finally, this guy Emad Metab is AN AFRICAN NATIONS player...yet another absentee then!!

Foreign papers report that the embargo will be lifted on 12th of the month, these reports are attributed to PL sources; may as well be HP sauces! The Egyptian seems ok, Zaki was spouting because of the loss of face when the Pompey deal fell through, no big deal.

HP Sauces ! ha ha ! Still, I hope he doesn't blow all 50M on one striker :-)

I just think that if this were the middle ages, SAF would definitley qualify as our Court Jester. Very funny article about him in the DMail today. Why doesn't he just go away.
