SAF 'sets up' striker deal...

SAF 'sets up' striker deal...

Hopes that our transfer embargo could be lifted in the not to distant future have been raised by some recent comments - although as it stands we do still have this in place...

Despite this fact it was today 'claimed' in The Sunday People that a deal 'has been agreed' for Egyptian striker Emad Metab.

This deal is 'said' to have been 'set up' by SAF, who is also 'said' to still be working on a deal for Amr Zaki as well - although he made it clear he did not want to sign for us back along, right...

'Apparently' the 26-year-old, Metab that is, who plays for Al-Ahly is someone that Avram Grant 'admires' and would like to sign for £1.2m when the transfer embargo is lifted, which Grant has 'allegedly' been told will be the case before the end of the month - although to be fair we too have also been told this is something 'we hope' will be the case.

The fact remains that until this embargo is lifted talk of players signing is nothing more than talk, although Grant has himself said that deals are being lined up - so I am sure that, funds permitting and this embargo being lifted, he will soon move for these players that you would imagine would be wrapped up quickly...

As always all we can do is wait and see.

Does this mean Belhadj and Yebda are leaving? Or are the Egyptians ok about mixing with Algerians all of a sudden. To be fair, was it just Zaki either being brain dead or misreported...?

googled him: first site "Emad Metab signs for bristol city". a move that never came off, as after a fee had been agreed, signed a contract, and got a work permit, he went on to play for Al Ahly in the african champions league.

to make things more confusing, I think his surname seems to vary between "metab" and "Moteab"... anyway, over the years, he's won quite a bit - Egyptian Premier League Top Goalscorer 2004/05. Named the best striker in Africa in 2005. Named Second best Striker in Africa in 2006. the problem is, he hasn't done anything remarkable since then. And no, I don't count winning the saudi premier league last year as "remarkable".

so my point is - after having won all those things between 2004-2006, why was it that only bristol rovers were intrested in 2008, and what has changes so massivly since then to make him a premiership striker?

Northampton (h) - Securing home advantage?

Some could view this as a 'dead rubber!' It isn't as Champions Northampton will want to end on a high and Pompey will want 'an advantage' against Plymouth in the play-offs. Right?

Pompey MotM at Hartlepool

Pompey went into the penultimate game with a slim chance of a top 3 finish. A 2-0 win at Hartlepool saw the Blues do what we needed but wins for others ended those chances.
