Fulham v Pompey called off!

It has been confirmed that the game against Fulham, scheduled for 3pm tomorrow, has been called off due to the weather conditions sweeping the country at the moment.

This is something that I have been expecting all week to be honest, some may see this as a good thing but with Fulham missing some key players and us still having some of ours with the club at this point maybe we have lost more by this postponement?

Fulham has issued a statement, see below...

PLAY UP POMPEY!

Pompey's Premier League clash at Fulham on Saturday has been postponed.

The following statement has been released by Fulham:

"The club can confirm that Saturday's Barclays Premier League fixture against Portsmouth at the Cottage has been postponed due to the adverse weather conditions which are not expected to improve over the next 24 hours.

"The safety of supporters is of paramount importance to the club and following an inspection of the areas surrounding Craven Cottage on Friday morning, it was deemed unsafe for fans to travel.

"The club can confirm that all tickets for Saturday's game will be valid for the re-arranged fixture date which will be announced in due course."

We'll never see O'hara play again for us now.

Though this was always going to be a tough match, when not many outside Pompey would give a prayer, it may have been a good time to play them. They played midweek, have a few injuries & may be the conditions would have evened things out. Then again, we could have just got beat as expected.

Pompey are apparently attempting to have all games during the ACON postponed!!
eastneydave
Yeah good in a way as the ACON will be over by the time we have the fixture rescheduled and also hopefully we might have been able to bring in some new players if the embargo is lifted.
blarmy
we should/could have players from the ACoN back - but we could/will be without o'hara. swings and roundabouts...
pompeycarpet
eastneydave, didn't you know that all the bad weather is part of a conspiracy by the Portsmouth owners to avoid playing matches?? It's all in the Sun/Telegraph/mirror/express/guardians 'exclusive' expose on the 'evil portsmouth football club'

Have to say this seems crap to me as I live in Hammersmith (hence by most imaginative name) which is about 20 mins walk from Craven Cottage and there is virtually no snow left on pavements etc as they've been gritting like mad. Looks like FFC did bugger all to get the place ready as west London is NOT in the grip of an evil freeze - nowhere near it.

england, it seems, is now a nation full of ********. a little bit of snow, which everyone wished for xmas, came, and now were told we cant even look afterselves enough to walk to a frickin football match. we (the health and safety conscious country) are pathetic! this match could go ahead. those supporters that cant make the game ... tough. watch it on tv like the rest of us that cant! unlike a lot of the people in this world i cant wait to emigrate AWAY from this hole of a country! rant over =)

It is a bit disappointing, but no suprise to me, having gone into an empty office every day this week. We can't cope with this weather in this country, but we don't seem to try all that hard. Mind you, I really hate it, and certainly didn't wish for it at Christmas or any other time. If I was to emigrate away it would be to somewhere hot and sunny with no need for gritter lorries!
tracyc
Bunch of woofty scaredy pants. I'm in London and it's fine. If the game was at Fratton we would have at least waited until everyone was there before calling it off

Great .. an afternoon shopping !

This is not good! Each time the players have a pay issue they have played rather well and with Fulham missing a few I actually fancied us to win. Whilst i am still technically " given up on Pompey until next season in the championship or whatever they call the nowhere league now" ( as I think I put it) I still put my weekly tenner on us to win at what I thought were over generous odds, even with Axe and Muggins playing!
russellm
russ - soon ure pay day will come. but u will never recoup your loss. i have the other strategy. 10 on us to lose (i use the asianhandicaps). so far (unfortunately) its working well. either i win cash, or pompey win. lol.

SNOW!!!!!! now when I was a lad>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>blimey I can't remember that far back.

Quite sure it suits Fulham to play another day. They have injury concerns & the conditions would have evened the game out.

Some bloke spent 3k coming from South Korea to see Seol Ki-Hyeon play for Fulham ...he's a bit peed off.
hammersmithblue
I least they did the decent thing and called it off early, instead of waiting two hours before the match hen the pompey fans will have left to travel to the ground.

disagree with the 'those supporters that cant make the game ... tough. watch it on tv like the rest of us that cant!' pessimist. granted we are not all fortunate enough to make games - ok i can quite often, but it is not like i can really afford this! - but, as much as 'fair' does not come into things much, would it really be fair on fans that shelled out a fortune, and we could have been talking hundreds of thousands, that could not have made it?
pompeyrug
that is what we did to you citeh fans back along didnt we buzz...
