All hope for our season is not lost Aaron Mokoena has vowed to stay with Pompey, so it is game on!
Mokoena, talking to Sowean - a South African paper, magazine or TV station I guess - 'claims' to have been approached by 'several clubs,' with Wolves 'thought' to have been one of them again: 'in this month's transfer window period I have been approached by several clubs but I have made it clear I'm not going anywhere.'
'Portsmouth are going through some internal challenges, but the new owners of the club are doing their utmost best to sort out the problem.
'I have been with Portsmouth for six months (after joining from Blackburn). I have no immediate plans to leave.'
He feels that his chances of playing regular football will be damaged if he moves on elsewhere as 'guaranteed football' is something that he feels he will get here at Fratton Park so he does not want to give this up: 'Coach Carlos Alberto Parreira has advised Bafana Bafana players warming the benches to move to clubs where they will play regularly to enhance their chances of being part of the World Cup squad.
'I cannot risk my chances of being part of the historic 2010 Fifa World Cup finals by moving to another club where I might not be guaranteed that I will play regularly immediately on my arrival.'
I know that Mokoena is NOT a fans favourite, far from it, and plenty would be happy to see him move on - and in all honesty I guess I would not mind if truth be known - but I do not think that anyone can doubt his effort or commitment.
In all honesty, if he did not leave - which hee seems to be set against - I would prefer him to be a squad player, at best, but from the looks of things he will soon become something a little more than this again in the weeks and months ahead, as players 'depart' - God help us...
At least he is still up for the battle, even if those that are left 'could' be fighting one they cannot win in the not too distant future perhaps! With The Axe we fight on though!
Quite who will be left at the end of January is anybodies guess, although departures always has, and always still does, seem VERY likely - arrivals on the other hand, these would come from within, the reserves and youngsters I guess...
PLAY UP POMPEY!
