'Cheated' James 'flattered' by Spurs 'interest'

Perhaps he has been 'misquoted' but the thoughts from David James in The Sunday Telegraph are hardly those of a man who is not at least 'thinking' about moving on, are they?

He feels that a move to an 'upwardly mobile club' will better his England prospects and as such is 'flattered' to be 'linked' with Spurs again: 'you could say that I'm flattered by a team of Tottenham's stature and that it would be good for my England chances to join an upwardly-mobile club.'

For me, leaving Pompey is not going 'to be good for his England chances' - the thing that WILL be good for his England chances is him staying fully fit and concentrating on playing football, not thinking it would help doing this somewhere else!

Avram Grant has said a couple of times that James leaving is not something that he wants, and will not allow, yet moving on does 'seem' as though it is something that the 39-year-old now wants?

He says that he feels 'cheated' that the club have sold so many players, that could have helped us now - surely if ANYONE was to understand why I though it would be him, but I guess not? Try being in our shoes mate - we are the ones that were here long before you and WILL be here long after you!

He says he wants to 'help us climb the table' but it seems moving on is more on his thoughts once again: 'you have to focus on where you are, and I want to help Portsmouth to climb the table.

'The departure of so many players from the club last summer was a great pity, especially when those players are your proven goalscorers.

'When half of the team disperse, you feel a bit cheated.'

It was 'thought' that James DID want to leave at the end of the last transfer window but could not get his move - this was something that he denied, but with the latest transfer window approaching again his thoughts do not 'seem' to be doing much to convince me otherwise that he wants to stay.

The way I see it, as much as I like the guy, and think he is still a top keeper, 'if' he wants to go then lets let him go! Although I cannot see the point in Spurs signing him, or him going there - but, hey ho...

He must still be one of our top earners, right?

Yet the more he sits out the season through injury the more a 'waste' it seems, when we cannot afford this.

Asmir Begovic 'would' benefit from a little more time around Jamo, but Begovic continues to grow in stature for me, so I would have no real concerns with him taking over as our no.1 if the man that 'is' meant to be our no.1 when fit does want out...

So, 'if' he wants to go let him go!

Sell, use the money to alleviate the embargo, award Begovic the ermanent number 1 shirt. James has lost his bottle. Let him slope off to 'Arry's lads. ffs, they might as well be called Portenham Mouthspurs by the time he's finished with us.

I think we all felt 'cheated' when Arry left and so did our top players - the difference is that us as supporters don't have the option to leave, we have to stay and grin and bear what is happening to our club. I'm not convinced that playing second fiddle to Gomes and waiting for Gomes' unavailability to coincide with Jamo's brief windows of match fitness is going to help his world cup chances - but its his call. A few months ago I would have been devastated at the thought of Jamo leaving, but it's been mooted for a year now, and so many other things have happened in the meantime that I'm a lot less concerned now. Especially as we have 'inspector gadget' in Begovic.

James feels cheated? How about us mugs who pay to watch the team, how about everyone who shelled out for season tickets in May only to see an exodus?

I would have thought that Jamo would be better off getting fit and staying with us for his WC chances. At the age of 39 he should be 'flattered' but he's only going to be a 'back-up' in any top team. The way Beg is playing he could find himself as the back-up at Pompey ;-)

Its obvious that james isnt really injured,he and the club are just waiting for january, and off he pops, and if he goes to uncle twitchy he is gonna be playing second fiddle to hillary gomez? How many times have we seen players who say they are crocked and lo and behold the first sign of a move hallejuah praise the lord a miracle cure has been performed.

i was happy for him to go in august. he makes the wrong noises for me and has constantly been too vocal in his 'words of wisdom' advice for the club when his own form or body language was far from fantastic. if anyone thinks we're get money for him (especially off spuds) i would think they're mistaken just getting him off the wage bill is what the club want

My real worry is that we may lose Begovich if he continues with his current form - someone looking for a good prospect for the future. PUP

Let him go FFS ! BUT on our terms and not wobblechops'!! Begovic is more than ready, and will only get better with a regular place in the team....Make sure that any money we get for him goes to pay off the crippling debt first and not in the owners pockets!!! PUP and Begovic for No. 1

There's nothing we can do to control where any money goes - and most of Pompey's debt is to Guydamek anyway. But we might get enough for James for one month's players' wages bill.

The only problem is that we won't get to much for him. But yes, wage-wise it is ok. I still rate him as the best we have.

Cheated?!...W4nker! How dare he!! Cheated!...It's us the fans who've been cheated!! We've endured countless people come and rape our club; pick the bones clean and ***** off, and yet again gobby goalie has a whine and a flirt with the shop window that masquerade's as the media. No doubt it's already a done deal> well they should start a shop up; up in Portingham called Judas and Judas, Pawn brokers

I can see what he means by 'cheated' at the players sold, you were building so well and I'm sure a lot of promises were made to them all about continuing that. Not nice to read though, good luck the rest of the season folks.

Firstly Jamo has been brilliant for us. From the moment he came in 2006, he was an integral part of the best team we had in our modern history. The club on & off the pitch is not the same now, scarely recognisable, so, we give Jamo his right to move on & let him do what is best for him. We will carry on with our desperate fight without him. Thank you Jamo for the great 2-3 seasons you gave us.

This is a good time for us to let him go for a price. Thanks David you have been a goalkeeping star for us in the past seasons. I am more than happy to say this with the present form of our young and rising Begovic.

Holy ***** this better not be true, hed be better off for you anyways as hes always gonna have shots to save and therefore looks better at a team with a pap defence.

yep, i think jamo has been fantastic for us - and i still think he is a top keeper - but once your heart is not in it anymore that is that, and his heart is not in it anymore!

i think the thoughts that he 'feels cheated' were not the best words to use - he ought to try being in our shoes, THAT is cheated...

time for him to go, not sure a club will pick him up tho tbh - only redknapp, if he can convince the spurs board, would get him but they are no 'mugs' right, will they let him dish out high wages to players he will not play that much like we did here?

He will always be the best keeper ever at Fratton Park, and I'll always be grateful to him for the 2-3 years here, for his part in our FA cup run in 2008, and for the lovely view if you stand behind him when he's warming up! He's a great character and a great ambassador for the 'beautiful game'. I will still root for him to play for England, and hope he plays in the world cup. And if he does return to FP in opposition colours I will still applaude him and chant 'England's No. 1'. But I'm prepared to let him go now, Begovic is our future now.

I'll be controversial now but i think shaka was just as good in his own way. Just as good reflex saves, stayed in his 6 yard box a lot more which he was criticised for but therefore didn't make the calamitous mistakes of james a la Reading at home (altho it didnt matter)

Nothing controversial there Bock...I too thought he was a superb keeper! Wish we'd had Niemi years ago; What a fantastic keeper he was!!
