No fear over postponement...at this stage

Pompey have moved to assure fans that the game with Liverpool tomorrow will go ahead, as the pitch is in 'perfect condition' for the bin dippers visit.

So, we will not see another 'Citeh moment' where we had the embarrassment of seeing a premier league game called off due to a frozen pitch. 'If' this happened again the premier league would come down on us like a ton of bricks - although, if it was money they wanted they would have to wait in line ;-)

A statement - see below - was issued on The Pompey Site this morning that says that the only disruptions being felt this weekend might be to the fans trying to get to Fratton, as this game will go ahead...

Pitch Perfect For Liverpool Clash

Snow may disrupt many people's weekends, but Pompey and Liverpool fans can rest assured.

The groundsmen at Fratton Park, led by Bob Jones, were well prepared for the freezing temperatures - and snowy conditions.

Frost covers were laid over the turf on Wednesday afternoon, once the pitch had been marked, and then the water-proof covers that make up the inflatable dome were added in the evening.

The snow was swept from the upper covers this morning and, with temperatures of over minus 4°C being predicted overnight tonight, heaters are due to be turned on and the dome inflated later today to protect the pitch ahead of the big match against Liverpool on Saturday.

Lucius Peart, head of operations, said: "The pitch is in perfect condition for our match on Saturday.

"We took all the necessary precautions earlier this week and we will now be keeping the pitch warm & ready for the game.

"There is no risk of the game not going ahead at this stage."

Kick-off for Saturday's match is 12.45pm.

Pompey prepared? Seems a strange expression. Good news the game is at lunchtime too as it will stop the pitch freezing during the game.

i have to leave exeter at 6 bloody 51 in the morning to ensure i arrive on time - the 8.49 is probably going to be delayed - bloody trains! christ help us if we get the world cup, a few leaves on the track or a bit of snow and the world comes to a standstill, fortunately we will not get snow during the 'summer' but yet get the point...

just imagine, we set out from here around 6, get on the train only to find its been called off - would not be amused, then again nor would the scousers! lets hope we ARE fully prepared this time, unlike the citeh call-off last year...

I love it - England is the only country that is well prepared in a World War but grinds to a halt in a little bit of snow!
