Legend, but not shirt retirement material

'Linvoy Primus might be a legend but retiring his no.2 shirt should not, and will not, happen', not my vote, yours - although these findings from Pompey Rego's poll are thoughts that I agree with to be honest...

I love Linvoy as much as any Pompey fan, they guy is a legend but if you started retiring shirts for everyone that offered a club as much as he did - and, lets be honest some others have offered more in all truth - then you would have none left.

He holds a special place in our hearts, and always will do, but I do not think that he himself would even want - or expect - his shirt to be retired in the wake of his enforced retirement.

If we were doing this then surely the likes of Jimmy Dickinson and Alan 'The Legend' Knight and co. would be higher up this food chain, right? And there numbers have not been retired...

Like I say Linvoy will ALWAYS hold a special place in our hearts, but this does not need his no.2 shirt to be retired, does it.

  • What the poll asked - Following Linvoy's retirement, as he is an absolute legend, should the club retire the no.2 shirt?

  • How you voted - Don't think so. May be a legend but aint no Raul 78%, Absolutely! No one will be worthy of the no.2 shirt 22%

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded? You know what to do, thoughts below please guys...

I'm not a fan of retiring a shirt number. You can argue the case for dozens of players & end up with lot's of missing numbers. Bad enough having number 34 on left wing etc. For those of us who were fortunate enough to see Linvoy play, the memories are enough.

Gotta agree with Matt - otherwise we'd have to retire No. 1 out of respect for Alan Knight.. No.5 out of respect for Jimmy Dickinson.. and No.6 out of respect for Hayden Mullins.. I'll stop there !

Yeah...I'll second those thoughts. I've got enough memories of Linvoy stored in my tiny bit of grey stuff. We haven't lost him anyway....he's gonna be around in whatever capacity for a long time I hope.

Maybe retiringing the number for 1 season would do the trick, like we did after Aaron Flahavan passed away. I don't think it'd be wise to get rid of the number 2 forever.

Sunderland at home was a fitting finale. I reckon Linvoy's no2 is safe for the rest of this season.

I don't believe in all this shirt retiring guff - just name a stand after him!

If it was something like 42 then retire away.
