Did we (re)start this rumour?

Did we (re)start this rumour?

As we all know Mark Viduka was 'heavily' linked - no fat joke puns intended, honest! - with Pompey last summer, but for better or worse no deal came about.

You will probably also remember that Chixy suggested a poll last week about the Aussie, which we voted on with the thoughts that NOT signing him was the right thing to do.

I find is 'strange' that The Metro today picks up on Viduka, running something about the 'former Leeds and Newcastle striker Mark Viduka is wanted by Portsmouth to score the goals which will lift them out of the Premier League relegation zone' - Pompey target Viduka while Arsenal move for Pavlyuchenko - Transfer Talk - here

I say strange, as our poll followed the thoughts that could his goals lift us out of the relegation zone - so, has our poll and the subsequent article on its findings, somehow offered ammunition to the 'reawakening' of this old rumour?

Is this further evidence that the vast majority of 'rumours' that papers actually do go with are nothing more than assumptions made from other peoples thoughts/things that are picked up by various means online?

It certainly seems funny that after months of nothing on this issue, when thoughts on Viduka returned to the public eye with musings on Vital Pompey, that 'rumours' about him suddenly resurface - hmmm...

More lazy journalism. I think in slow news weeks journos just trawl the message boards and tribal football looking for stories. Take yesterday -rumors spread round the Pompey boards about the possibility of Administration. Some of the mails were based around an alleged e-mail. By today, this story had become a major 'scoop' for certain newspapers, without anything to substantiate the rumours except the alleged e-mail and claims of a Pompey source, who is just one of the regular posters on a certain message board.

Oh no! what have I done ? - Pompey to sign Viduka and it's all my fault .. sorry fellas I only asked the question as a joke (although some of you fell hook line and sinker at my attempt to 'big him up'). Just goes to show as YCM says that the majority of journos sit on their big fat a's all day and look to us for inspiration (sic!).

Also.. let's not forget that on the space of two weeks last season eastneydave had three articles 're-published' virtually word for word on different news sites ... one site being 'The News'.. Still it's a compliment to Vital Pompey I think ;)

How could I forget Chix!! One was the details of how the UEFA cup draw would unfold, who we could play and where they were from. As to the Duke - no thanks.

-Yes, we Pompey Fans started the rumour... No sooner as it was reported that Storrie was off on a 2 week holiday to OZ, it was suggested by the banter on the News pages that one (unlikely) reason was to recruit this unfit 'has-been' (Viduka, who was good once).. Far more likely Storrie is on a 'deserved' holiday before he gets some bad news from either the new owners or the courts...

According to the Telegraph... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/portsmouth/6763886/Peter-Storrie-goes-abroad-to-plug-60m-hole-as-Portsmouth-deadline-looms.html This column can disclose that attempts to end the spiralling financial crisis at Fratton Park have resulted in the club opening talks on three continents, with chief executive Peter Storrie understood to be meeting potential investors in Hong Kong and Australia this week, while new owner Ali Al-Faraj seeks a solution from Saudi Arabia. Talks with UK financial institutions are also under way as the club battle to survive.

We've got two so-called 'billionaires' in charge of the club so why the hell are they looking for finances elsewhere? PS has been conned all round because it was he who introduced both Doc.F and Ali.F to the club. It seems that he's not as clever as he thinks he is. For me there are too many F*****s in the club.

PompeyExile, I saw that article today, I was going to put it up in the Forum. It strikes me as more or less truthful and explains where all Pompey's debt is. It isn't a pretty situation for sure. As for "billionaires" - ha! Apparently one of them's a doctor as well!

Hartlepool (a) - Safety first!

A win at Wimbledon made sure of a play-offs place. Technically we can finish in the top 3 but this would require an unlikely set of results from too many clubs wouldn't it?
