Who should take the Pompey penalties?

Who should take the Pompey penalties?

Which way will you vote in the latest Vital Pompey poll, suggested by myself, as to who YOU would like to see take our penalties following failed efforts from Kevin-Prince Boateng and Aruna Dindane already this season, which have only been added to a string of penalties misses over the past few years from various players?

  • What the poll is asking

Who would YOU want to see taking our penalties?

  • Which way to vote?

Boateng might have already missed against Stoke but he made up for this against Manyoo, so perhaps he should carry on with this duty?

A hat-trick was completed against Wigan by Dindane back along, but after fighting with Boateng - who, despite his quality seems a 'selfish' player - missed against Burnley in our last game. Luckily for HIM it did not cost US, but should he have another go?

On-loan Jamie O'Hara strikes a good ball, so why would he not be able to strike a good penalty?

The Herminator is a no nonsense player, and he can hit a shot with power and accuracy - as he showed against Burnley with a 'strikers' finish. He is known to hit a free kick, and I 'think' he has taken penalties in the past so why not let the iceman show how cool he can be under pressure?

Head down and power it! That seems to be Younes Kaboul's way with his efforts, especially from free-kicks - that is not exactly a bad way to take a penalty is it, so why not Younes?

Maybe you think that someone else altogether would be the better option?

Make sure you vote on this latest poll to your right, but share your views on this issue below too...

Went for Kaboul on this one. Any keeper who wants to potentialy get their head taken off by one of his point blank shots deserves to save it. Im fed up of people who take these weak penalties. Aim for a top top corner and put your foot through it. Younes your time has come!!!

yeah i think kaboul would be a good one !! why do players always aim for bottom corner and pass it ?? all pens missed this wkend defoe, dindane, fabragas, lampard, think their was a few more. and they were all passes.

boeting. Watch the germans take penalties - when was the last time they missed? Ok, boeting is now technicly ghanian... but he's still the one i'd trust most from the spot.

Boateng has missed one and scored a weak one.. Dindane has scored one and then missed one .. O'Hara is a loan player so only a short term solution.. Hermann won't play every week so that rules him out .. Kanu midsed his last one (I think) .. Younes maybe ?? .. but the best passer of the ball we have (although he doesn't have to 'pass' a penalty) is Marc Wilson..
    08/12/2009 13:04:00
wilson strikes a ball well but i am not sure he will be one of grant's first 11 when all are fit, which i think is a shame as he grows as a player with each game for me...
based on this season, and this season alone i reckon that the herminator has the balls to step up and be the man but i think baoteng will want them - and i am not confident in him taking them as he does not always strike the ball clean enough for me, so i would leave it to kaboul, power the ball into the roof of the net or straight down the middle, no messing - give the ball to younes!

I'll go KPB...ok the guy missed one, but had the guts to come back and make amends. As for penalty takers. I'd say the coolest ever was Zidane in the World Cup. I mean...chipping the keeper with a penalty in the Final, man you've got to have mega balls to do that....brilliant.

    The decision is the managers.
    08/12/2009 17:08:00
Agree with Corny, we all thought Prince was the penalty taker anyway, didn't we. Yes he missed the one, but seemed to learn from it. OK, the decision is the manager's, but we can still debate it can't we.

Anyone who can put the ball in the net . they all get paid enough so they should all be out practicing over & over its not hard Boateng & dindane should both be ashamed of there wasted penaties efforts . long live Matty Taylor

    Chaplin secured

Chaplin had a contract with Pompey until 2018 but ahead of the disappointing Notts County defeat he extended his contract with the Blues until 2019.

    Another Fratton disappointment

That 2nd half on Saturday against Notts County was woeful - absolutely awful wasn't it. The first 15-minutes or so of it was like a pre-season friendly to pre-season!

Match highlights - Pompey 1-2 Notts County

What a disappointment that was! The 1st half wasn't bad, in fact large chunks of it were good but the 2nd half was just woeful with a soft centred Pompey beaten 2-1 by Notts County.
