John Utaka, whilst maybe not used as an 'out and out' striker as much as some people might have liked, has had more than enough chances now and his 'performance' against Villa on Tuesday was the final, final straw for me - the guy HAS to go, although to be honest as far as I am concerned he should have gone a long time ago!
If only we could have 'forced' him out over the summer we 'might' have been able to keep someone that was more worthwhile keeping?
Although it 'appears' that he dug his heels in and refused to budge, well that and the fact that I do not think clubs were queuing up for him were they...
Yep, we know there is some talent hidden away somewhere as we have seen it every now and again but we CANNOT afford a passenger like him, and given our financial predicament I find it criminal that we can be paying someone so much for so little in return!

'According' to The Sun today Celtic are 'lining' him up - I just pray that they take him from us!
The major draw back with this, other than the fact that it is in The Sun for starters, are the 'claims' that they are actually only looking at a loan deal with the 'view to a permanent switch', and even if that happened they are hardly going to pay us much are they?
Either way, time to cut our losses and get rid of him - although I HOPE that 'if' any loan deal is agreed, it is agreed with Celtic paying most, if not all, of his wages!
As far as players coming in goes, as unlikely as this seems given further 'revelations' today about our financial standing - not to mention the transfer embargo still being in place - Benfica defender Miguel Vitor is again being 'linked' with us.
Sky sports 'understands' that we have 'made a move' for the defender, who will only leave Benfica for a temporary loan move wherever he goes, and are 'keen to tie up a deal in the next week, with a view to Vitor joining in January.'
Although is it not a STRIKER and not a keeper or defender that we need most of all?
Whatever though I will believe it when I see it - I guess that goes for both the Utaka and Vitor 'reports'...

Oh!! The enigma that is John Utaka....What can you say. I've seen flashes of jaw dropping ability from the guy, only to be followed seconds later dissability. He's a puzzle that's for sure. I've been a fan, and one of those willing him to show what he can do. But in all honesty, even I've given up on him now. There's only so many chances you can have to show what you can do. It's probably best if John gets a move, but to Celtic???? He'd probably be far better off going back to France, where they play a game that suits him better. Dam pity though, cos I had high hopes for him when he signed..

hes not really been given a chance up front at all, he started up front initially, looked really good, then has been put out wide which he obviously wasnt keen on, which most strikers wouldnt be, cant think of many that would, even nugent moaned about it,and couldnt ever envisage defoe putting up with it either. im sure it isnt what he signed up for. i think his nigerian place has suffered for it aswell.

its not really a run though is it? a sub appearance and a start in the carling cup with webber as a partner and a load of missfits. kanu and utaka to start against burnley.

I agree ruff. Put him in as a striker with a decent run and we could see a different Utaka. Worth a try before the transfer window.

Sorry guys i dont agree , I remember seing John Utaka going on that fantastic run and scoring on the big screen whilst on holiday in Turkey ..was it chelski ?I thought like everyone what a fantastic player. whether it was Jamies dad playing him on the right then losing confidence in him that has done it .Unfortunateley how we package it he has lost his confidence in football and the best thing for him ,(and of course pompey)is to loan and/or sell him.

hopefully if he goes itll be to a foreign team, i can see if hes sold to a premiership team and played as a striker he'll bit us an the ass.
