'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Mystery man to be unveiled...

There had been a few rumblings this week that the illusive Ali Al Faraj could attend his first Pompey game this weekend when Manyoo come to town.

Today both The Sun and The News have said this is the case, stating that the majority owner will sit alongside new manager Avram Grant in the directors box for the sold out game against the premier league champions.

No doubt this will be a double blow to Paul Hart, who of course unsurprisingly rejected his youth directors role last night, as he not only failed to meet the owner face-to-face but did not see him attend any games during his own time in charge - yet as soon as Grant's work permit comes through he not only gets the job but Al Faraj also attends his first game!

It has also again been 'claimed' today that Grant WILL have funds available to him in January to strengthen the squad, well actually the clubs are 'hoping' this will be the case...

Why would Grant sit in the directors' box?
UKTony
grant's work permit does not allow him to sit in the dugout as the manager at the moment does it? it has to be 'upgraded' for him to 'offically' become manager...

Unfortunately for Hart it appears that what has been thought for a while by a lot of people, is that Grant was always going to step in, and its all a big coincidence that his work permit came just after Hart was sacked. I believe that Faraj had made it clear he wanted grant and the appointment as Director of Football was just the writing on the wall for Hart. I guess if we had not been beaten by Blackburn and Stoke then Hart would have had another couple of matches, but the inevitable was sure to happen. Best wishes to Grant now and lets hope and prey he can pick a team and use the correct tactics to cilm the table.

One of the Toast team has met Ali's brother but not AAF himself. Will be interesting to say the least.

So Al Mirage is to make his grand entrance!!!!! But how will we know it is indeed him? We have seen one tiny photo that could have come from anywhere. He could use a body double, a trick used by another quite infamous leader in the Middle East. One things for sure, there'll be a lot of telephoto lenses trained on the directors box. And an abundance of new photo's to look at on Sunday. But will they tell us anymore than we know now........Has he got the money?

Blarmy, I don't think its a coincidence. If AG's work permit had come through 4 weeks ago, Hart would have gone then - it was always the plan. Corny, I was thinking that too, how will we know if he's there or not?
tracyc
Tracy....we won't! But never mind, using the trendy new buzz phrase " It's just a vision thing" is probably the mindset our new owner uses. Let's hope he's got a bit of vision regarding our position in the league.
cornypomp
Will this be first game where both 'managers' will be in the stand? As for Al Faraj, he'll be the one in the away shirt.
Lemmi
The only thing of "Al the Fridge" I want to see his MONEY in January. From then on in, a "vision" of a cardboard cutout in the Directors box with "call me Al" on will do. Maybe the mystery money for transfers in Jan. is the £50m from SAF, the golden tongued one.
Mike1954
Good observation that, Lemmi. lol

I'll be disappointed if Mr Al Mirage doesn't wear an ill-fitting Pompey shirt with "Al Mirage" on the back.
Pompeytim
Anyone seen the Daily Fail today and the article on "Bye Bye Dubai"? Does anyone know if Al Mirage is Dubai or one of the other countries? If he is Dubai, or if he has money invested thyere, then it doesn't look good for us. I wonder if ManC will be affected?
gandor1
He's a Saudi I think Gandor. Doesn't mean he hasn't got business interests there though. Be surprised if he hasn't to tell you the truth. SAF's the man with the Dubai Property connections though.
cornypomp
Bit wierd that hes coming when we're playing one of the biggest teams in europe.... hmmm
PompeyFcMad
Yeah...but does he know that Mad??? After all, he's said he doesn't know anything about football. So for all he knows they could be fellow relegation candidates...
cornypomp
I'm with Mick on this one! Not interested in the bloke (just as, I get the feeling he's not really interested in us!) I would rather see his cheque book !
