Grant confirmed as Pompey boss

Grant confirmed as Pompey boss

Slaven Bilic had expressed an 'interest' in becoming the next Pompey manager but he will not get the job as The Pompey Site has confirmed that Avram Grant WILL be taking over.

His appointment, as is usually the case with Pompey, seems a less than straightforward approach with this statement issued: 'Portsmouth Football Club can confirm that Avram Grant is to become manager.

'He will take charge of the team for the home game against Manchester United at Fratton Park on Saturday in his capacity as director of football, having been granted his work permit.

'The club will then go through the process of making the technical change that will allow Avram to become manager. This involves acquiring a new sponsorship number from the Football Association to change his permit status.'

So, eventually Grant will become the official manager - quite when is anybodies guess...

Peter Storrie said: 'Avram is a very experienced and respected manager who has managed at the highest level. The board believes he is the man to help steer the club out of the relegation zone.

'He knows the club, the players and the set-up at Fratton Park, so it was the logical move to make him the next manager, once the board had decided to relieve Paul Hart of the role.

'He will take charge of training on Friday alongside first-team coaches Paul Groves and Ian Woan.'

It is 'said' that Grant did not take the job instantly as he wanted to know exactly what the score was, with him wanting to take this on his terms - so do we dare to hope that we are finally getting things sorted out OFF the pitch to leave him in a position to be able to sort it out ON the pitch with a reasonable chance?

Why do we always get the droopiest chops on our bench. Either that or Tony Adams and his Dr Who scarf or Paul Hart and that embarrassing trackie-bottoms-tucked-in-socks look. Well at least we haven't got a fool with a head set like Phil "Call Centre" Brown

Can't say I'm surprized... I reckon he was just waiting for a clause to be written into the contract that he won't be sacked if we go down.. Why am I not excited about this ?

As he looks like Herbert Lom , will he have Clouseau as his number 2?

Yawn!! Now that the Fridge is flying in for a Board meeting, maybe he can sort out the back office staff as well, starting with PS. It's new broom time throughout the Club.

Ditto here Chix. I think I'm punch drunk from the whole saga. Start winning, buy players, start on new stadium and I think I might just revive.

hhhmm...whatever next..the good news is Merson has tipped us to go down now...its no good looking at his record in Prem because Chelsea are a very differant fish. I hope he does well, seems like a nice guy too.

My mate with a season ticket at Stamford Bridge has offered me a seat next to him at the Pompey game on 16 December. Can't help feeling I'm being set up for an embarrassing night and a lot of crowing.
