Next mug, I mean manager?

Which way will you vote in the latest Vital Pompey poll, suggested by paultsmouth, as we try to gage who people would like as our next manager?

  • What the poll is asking

    Next mug, I mean manager!

  • Which way to vote?

Would it be the man that many of us would have thought was a 'nailed on certainty', and from the moment he arrived as 'director of football', Avram Grant?

Darren Ferguson has been 'linked' with us for a few weeks now, so could the young pretender, the son of the devil himself, be the one we turn too...

Surely this is about as unlikely as me coming home to find Cheryl Cole waiting for me, but could we see a third coming for Droopy dog!

With Croatia not going to the world cup, despite committing to his country, could it finally be the time that Slaven Bilic gets into club management with a club he has been linked with before? He has a personality that would set the club alight, but could we lure him in?

Should, as much as I would say NO myself, we rescue Paul Jewell from the managerial scrap heap? Best leave him there, I hope!

Could Sir Teddy of Sheringham return, getting his managerial career underway as our boss? We could always make him player-manager...

Would you 'love it' if 'King Kev' Kevin Keegan came out of retirement again to become our saviour? Maybe he will give the club a share of his compensation payout...

Steve Coppell might be one of the most charisma-less guys in the world but could he keep us up, is he the man that you think is 'the right man' for us?

Maybe you have someone else in mind altogether?

I think it goes without saying that it is ESSENTIAL that we get this appointment right - we CANNOT afford to get this wrong again, and this is something that we have continually done over the years, for many years, and before Harry Redknapp came along, in-between spells and after them.

In all honesty I think this will be a position that is not going to see a 'surprise name' installed, and most likely for the reasons being we have little to appeal to anyone!

But this board MUST get it right as it is not just our premier league future in the balance here, I fear there is much, much more at stake than 'just' being relegated!

Make sure you vote on this latest poll to your right, but share you views below too...

it should be out of grant , curbishley , mancini or bilic.

Darren Fergasen is too inexperianced, but is looking like a good prospect, so if we're preparing for the championship, he would be a good choice. If we could get steve coppell, I would take him every time. Paul Jewel? GOD NO! Avram Grant - obvious choice, and with the timing of hie work permit coming in, i think that it's almost a nailed on certainty that he'll be the man to get the job.
    pompeycarpet
Agree that Ferguson Jr is too inexperienced. Curbishley, Jewell? No thanks. Droopy dog not on your nellly. He wouldn't leave Spuds right now anyway. Billic . . yes he sounds a good prospect, but if he was going to be sacked from Croatia wouldn't it have been soon after they failed to qualify. Can't see that happening. Sheringham? Even less experience than Darren Ferguson. Keegan? I don't like the idea, but we could probably do a lot worse. But he is an ex-scummer and a god at the barcodes, so I don't really see him as true blue Pompey. But does that count for anything in the modern game? Coppell? Had one good season with Reading before they went back down. Loads of experience but not such a great track record. Grant took Chelsea to 2nd in the table and the champions league final and was unfairly sacked. He also has history with Pompey and is already at the club, so doesn't have to be persuaded to come TO the club, just to take on a different role. He knows the players already. He has the respect of at least one (Jamo). He has to be the obvious choice.

Kevin Keegan would be terrible for you - you're having enough problems as it is.
    BlueWolfie
The mystery of the missing "Work Permit" is solved. Grant and Hart would have never worked together and now conveniently never will.
    007
I agree with Pompey Casual ... but without Mancini or Curbs on the list ... but to be honest none of then fill me with excitement..
    Chix
Curbishley & Jewell bloody hell they even sound like a comedy act. It'll be the silent and brooding Avram me thinks. And since the name of one of my all time hero's has been mentioned....bring back Teddy Sherringham as a striker. You think I'm kidding.. I bet at 40+ he could still find the back of the net. Wouldn't mind him as player/manager either.

GRANT In Talks with Pompey about becoming new manager. Hart considering returning to Youth set up, so dont beleive all you read. According to Sky Fahaj to hold meeting with rest of board in next week - 10 days, and Embargo lifted. They are also saying, Fahaj always said he wont make comments, but things are happening, so maybe its like City, little said, little appears to be happening, but behind the scenes more than we can even imagine. Optomistic maybe? bt even merson was on saying this is an oportunity happening at Pompey, that could have candidates queueing at the doors to apply for
    Midge
Merson last night changed his tuen. Start of the seaon he asid we were dfinite to go down, now he says we have enough to stay up!!!!! Agree though this appoinment has to be correct as it is not only our PL survival at stake. Obvious choice would be Grant, Curbs wonnt work with another Director as at West Ham although he may be good for us. Let's just get the right man in. PUP
    royalbluepompey
Midge, can you drop me a quick email please - use the addy, envelope, at the top :-)
    pompeyrug
i would go for bilic with grant as assistant . croatia out the world cup. but i think we need a french speaking coach of some sort as 90% of squad speak french.
    pompeyhussler
    Oui Hussler tres bien

I still don't fancy anybody on the lsit .. Just not inspired .. Surely there is a 'name' out there who can do a job.. Jewell, Curbs, Coppell, Southgate .. have all failed (to an extent) .. Grant it'll probably be ... but I just hope Midge is right !
    Chix
If AG doesn't get the job who would be willing to work with a DoF? Many of the names being bandied about have rubbished the DoF role. Probably only Ferguson would be willing to jump into the position as a stepping stone to experience and greater things. AG must be the favourite otherwise how is he earning his money?
    PFCblue
Any of the european managers would be happy to work with a DoF -it's the done thinbg on the continent Mancini is now free & desperate for work..but very boring tactically Bilic ? -got a feeling that it could be him -could be a good move Fergie Jnr -looks good idea on paper but do we want anovice manageR/ Also,Grant would have to be much more hands on working with him and would need an experienced old hand as assistant
    yellowcheesemonkey
Bilic come on the guy he plays a red gibson explorer!! and this comment after beating England at wembley 0 -2 surley gets him the job! "Wake up! You did not score your two goals because you had two strikers up front, we were simply the better team"
    GoldenBoot
I hope Billic gets the job. I think he is dead sexy.... And if he can keep us up, then that is the icing on the cake, and everyone is happy!
