Aaron Mokoena...

Aaron Mokoena...

'Aaron Mokoena is a work horse', not my vote, yours - although these findings from veccccio's poll are thoughts that I agree with to be honest...

Clearly Mokoena is not one of veccccio's 'favourite' players, but I do think that 'working at Tesco' and 'lacking in all departments' was perhaps a little unfair, the 'superstar' was a sarcastic option, right?

The guy clearly does lack footballing ability, he is a defensive midfielder and unless used as such in the side I cannot quite see what he brings to the table - but for some reason he has not always been used in such a role for us! As a defender I could understand but as a more attacking player, I just could not get this...

I like the fact that he is 100% committed and will give everything; it is just a shame that he is not that technically good, as harsh as that sounds. I think he is a good squad player to call upon, and is actually a good leader and captain, but for me is not someone that I would be looking to be a regular player for us.

All this said I think that if I ever heard anyone close to me booing him, or any other player for that matter - as has come from the 'fans' sometimes this season - I would flip! And those that know me will know it takes a lot to push me too far...

  • What the poll asked - Aaron Mokoena?

  • How you voted - Work Horse 38%, Should be working in Tesco 33%, Lacking in all departments 25%, Super Star 4%

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded? You know what to do, thoughts below please guys...

If he is a 'work horse' next stop is the glue factory. This type of player will get us relegated!!!
    24/11/2009 09:20:00
Voted for Tescos stacking the dog food isle, and promotion to the horse meat counter if he proved his worth. Seriously though, if we were playing well getting results, and sitting comfortable mid-table then he wouldn't have been noticed so much. You can carry someone when everything is ticking over nicely, but certainly not when you're struggling for survival. He's made far to many mistakes, gives the ball away too easily. Nice bloke yeah, but a squad player at best. I'm still trying to work out the way he was transferred to us....bizarre. Mullins looks like a superstar compared to him.

Just like our archaic political 'first past the post' electoral system this poll has on a minority vote revealed incorrect findings. In fact 58% were quite scathing, only 38% being in his favour.
    24/11/2009 10:00:00
I went with workhorse as he tries. He's no Djimi Traore.
    24/11/2009 11:49:00
correct, if you do add up all the 'against' as oppossed to the 'for' then it is more agains him, altho you then have to argue that 37% are 'for' o'hara being man of the match but 63% are against - when you are given a multi choice surely the highest amount is the winner not the combined amounts of the rest...

i am by NO MEANS aaron 'the axe' mokoena's biggest fan, far from it but i will never fault his effort or commitment of the fact that he does actually want to be here - granted i sometimes wish he was not, but he is and while he pulls on the pompey shirt i will back him, not that i will always like it but i would NEVER boo him or anyone else!
    24/11/2009 12:23:00
Totally Totally agree with Rug, Never boo your team, even if they annoyed you this game! Its what other teams do, BOLTON? STOKE? They may think they have the best fans, but kicking your own players is not my way of supporting your team.
    24/11/2009 12:58:00
never ever boo ou players. Mokoena is a work hoarse. Nothing more, nothing less. He'll work hard for the team, and he IS (just about) premiership standard. It's though though, when your used to having muntari playing in that role, to suddently switch to mokonoena, but we have to get used to it. This time next year, he could be our best player!!!
    24/11/2009 14:00:00
So Rug if we had a vote on PH going/staying and the result (of a hypothetical question) was: Stay permanently 30% Go immediately 25% Go by Xmas 25% Go at the end of the season 20% we would be lumbered with him permanently? Despite the majority wanting him to go at sometime? I thought that in a for or against poll you had to gain a simple majority. (the Afghan president poll was another example). The Mokoena poll was for or against him being a work horse. Your O'Hara comparison was correct as that was a true multi-choice poll. On the 'boo' point I completely agree. If he doesn't perform then surely it's the man who bought him and played him who has made a wrong decision.
    24/11/2009 15:42:00
whenever you have more than one option open to you, surely that is 'multi-option', right? even if most option are basically 'against'...
the mokoena poll was stacked HEAVILY against, but if voted 'work at tesco' you vote for that option, you cannot then say you voted for that and 'lacking' so you actually voted against...

for me, and it was not my poll, i just use what are sent through it should probably have just been something like 'is aaron mokoena good enough - yes or no', as that is basically, in a roundabout way, what it was trying to ask without 'yes' being an option really...
