Hart reflects on Stoke defeat...

Hart reflects on Stoke defeat...

Paul Hart, after a long and thoughtful pause, said that he felt 'more than a little hard done by' following our defeat at Stoke yesterday. Although he also felt we paid a price for missing the penalty that we did.

He also said the he felt we were 'in control' of the game in all areas of the field but maybe 'could have created a little more in the final third' but found it hard to be 'too critical of the players' as they gave everything again, as they have all season - which was more than fair to be honest, right?

See Hart's views on the above and more, including thoughts on 'our goalie not having a shot to save' and the frustrations of 'continuing to win plaudits despite the defeats', in this sky sports video below...

There is no way we should have lost this game - although how many times have we said that this season...

Like Hart I find it increasingly difficult to fault the players as could they really have given any more?

All in all I also, on the whole, find it hard to be critical of Hart too much - I would say that he made arguably the right changes but at the wrong time? Did he leave it too late? I also think Kanu staying on, despite that ability to create he has, when you are chasing a game was wrong and also think I would have got Danny Webber on sooner, but why not Tommy Smith at all?

Where does this leave us?

Well, I think it is time that we started being completely honest, if we are not already - I am not being defeatist but it is going to be very, very hard to survive now, right?

We will need to go on a monster run of all monster runs and would need at least 9pts by the end of the year, but can we really see where these will come from?

Ah well, at least we have the 'easy' task of Manyoo at home this weekend...

What else can you say? Every week, even on this site, we hear/read 'Pompey played well', 'Pompey should have won', 'the players gave their all', etc.etc. To me this indicates 2 things - (a) that PH is doing things right with the 'tools' at his disposal and (b) the players despite playing well and giving everything just aren't good enough for the PL. My head is now over-ruling my heart and saying we're going down bar that miracle run Rug mentioned.

0 much as I agree with you on Harts tactical decisions at times that have undoubtedly cost us points. It ain't only him though mate. Some of the football we've been playing has been lovely to watch but with no end result. Time to face up to another fact that we just haven't got a proven goal scorer in the team. We cannot score. Wigan was a one off, look what Spurs have just done to them. I reiterate, as much as I'm not keen on Paul Hart, our continual losing of games is not all down to him. If you haven't got players that can convert their chances in front of're stuffed.
23/11/2009 11:26:00
Spot on Corny, obvious as it is; if you can't convert you can't hope to win many games. Lets be honest and admit, not one of our strikers is a proven goal scorer, are they?

It's alright chaps, SAF said he was going to buy David Villa for us in Jan. Remember he always delivers on his promises.
23/11/2009 14:07:00
Mike we can't afford Ricky Villa!
23/11/2009 14:35:00
Sorry lads, but I do not agree about your idea of Hart's resignation. Why don't we put our blame on Boateng for once? Things would have been different haven't he f****d that penalty. Sad, but true; for the first time in ages I started thinking about relegation!

Chaplin secured

Chaplin had a contract with Pompey until 2018 but ahead of the disappointing Notts County defeat he extended his contract with the Blues until 2019.

Another Fratton disappointment

That 2nd half on Saturday against Notts County was woeful - absolutely awful wasn't it. The first 15-minutes or so of it was like a pre-season friendly to pre-season!

Match highlights - Pompey 1-2 Notts County

What a disappointment that was! The 1st half wasn't bad, in fact large chunks of it were good but the 2nd half was just woeful with a soft centred Pompey beaten 2-1 by Notts County.
