'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fans with interesting stories wanted!

A contact of Vital Football's is looking for fans with interesting stories.

Claire Snook explained: 'I'm looking for football fans who have taken extreme measures to get to a football game and was wondering if you knew anyone with an interesting story? It's for a case study for the national press.'

The Fear, from Vital Villa, has shared something of his own: 'Mine was going to the Blackburn New Year game just a few days before going for a life saving brain op. It was just weird. I went against doctors orders but just had it in my mind, especially as it wasn't unreasonable to think it might have been my last trip to Villa - or anywhere for that matter! - that it had to be done. Awful game if memory serves me right but I survived the game and the brain op... happy days, didn't get down to Villa Park for nearly 2 years after the op apart from a day in a box that the club gave me (they brought the League Cup up Coca Cola in those days, and I had a photo taken by the late great Terry Weir), now that was tough!'

Along with this one: 'Another is my mate who has been to every ground Villa have played and seen us win apart from Old Trafford. He's being going for 23 seasons, come home early from holidays, business, even got off a plane with suit cases and went straight to the game, all because it is his last hoodoo. Once he's seen us win there, I doubt he'll ever return!'

I know that tracyc shared a story with us back along about something she did in the 80s, I think it was the 80s, when she came back to from Germany to England for a midweek - I am sure it was midweek - game at West Brom, using various forms of transport to do so...

And of course pompeygray travelled all the way from Australia for the FA cup final.

I think that I would put forward my own journeys to Guimarăes and Wolfsburg for the uefa cup games at Vitoria and Wolfsburg respectively - Vitoria in particular as we did our journey from Pompey and back in about 36-hours, the game included, and without the use of any overnight accommodation. Wolfsburg for the sheer time it took for the journey there and back, I would say we spent AT LEAST 12-hours driving alone each way, Dover to Wolfsburg and back again, and that was before the driving on this side of the channel!

If you have anything, contact: claire.snook@insidemedia.uk.com and feel free to post in the article comments or forum if you have any interesting stories!

Rug - I will send Claire the story about my getting to the West Brom game, hopefully she'll show more interest than the chap who did the Pompey Till I Die book!
tracyc
tracy - I hope so too!! That story deserved being printed. Another idea nicked from Toast though.

The most extreme case I have is leaving my exam and going straight to the airport to get to the FA Cup Final in time. Not really that extreme but if you think it's worth submitting let me know and I'll put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard.
PompeyFrippy
