Gary O'Neil Wins Player of the Year

Gary O’Neil has won Vital Pompey player of the year!

Gary O’Neil has been at the club since he was a youngster. Gary grew up in Kent and supported Millwall when he was younger.

I think that the reason 70% of fans voted for him was because of his determination to the cause whomever the manager was. Linvoy came second with 20% of the votes and many regulars on this site voted for him because he kept going when he was dropped from the side in the Perrin months.

Gary O’Neil will be sent the certificate and we hope that he will release an official statement to the Vital Pompey website.

The next vote is who has the most influence in Portsmouth’s revival. This will be very close. With Sacha’s money we have brought in some real talent but if Perrin had had that money god knows who he would have bought! Harry on the other hand brought in possible England contenders and a Champions League winner. Milan kept the moral of the fans up and was responsible for bringing Harry back to the club. The fans kept the players going including Benjani! Not to forget Mendes either who scored the goal that inspired our survival run!

Whilst I voted for Linvoy I am delighted for Gary. He has been a long time stalward of our club and at times not always considered in the starting line-up. We farmed him out, most recently to Cardiff, and he came back to pitch in big time. Congratulations to him and may he not be thinking of a move now that we are still in the big time...

What happened there then? I voted for linvoy 14,825 times over the last 2 days and he still didn't win it. Seriously though, great to see Gary O win it and that 2 pompey stalwarts were in the running. I think he'd prefer to go places with Pompey than most other clubs gray.

Swindon loanee gone but willing to return

I think Smith did pretty well for Pompey in the end but his loan from Swindon is now over. With a year-long extension triggered a fee would be involved if the Blues wanted him.
