Benjani Hails Harry

Benjani Hails Harry

Benjani said (to PompeyPages): 'Everyone was waiting for my goal so I was extremely happy it came.

'It was a good moment for me but also for the fans and everybody else.

'My main goal was just to play well for the team and survive.

'For me, it was not a worry not scoring as long as I played well.

'For eight games I was not very good but then I started to perform.

'Of course, it has been difficult. In France it is not that hard compared to football in England.

'When I went to France I had to adapt and then I came here it was the same. It has been difficult.

'Above all I have to thank Harry.

'Even when I was down and the fans and everyone were wondering why he brought me here he kept on saying: 'I know you will do it'.

'Now I am starting to show what I can do and it is great for him, for me, the fans and the team.'

So was he good signing?

Well his main goal so far is his only goal. That said sometimes a trickle leads to a flood. Unfortunately with one game left, and against the current Euro Champions, he may not prove that until next season. We cannot say he has been a great signing, based on 4 Million odd quid for one goal, but if we persevere with him he may well start to repay that debt. Let's hope so, it appears he is turning the corner and a goal can inspire confidence. I am prepared to give him the oportunity to prove he is a Premiership late bloomer.

i think depending on the money spent in the summer he could be playing for his future sunday!

Crikey les, we'd have to go some to pay more than the £4million we paid for Benji. I'm with gray on this one. He had quite a good record of scoring at his last club, and he's now learnt how to play in the premiership. Just my personal opinion, but i reckon he'll do the business for us next season.

maybe but if we have money can we take that risk?

Well les, for £4 million i'd like to think he WILL do the business. If he doesn't, then what? Go and spend £6 million on a replacement.

Les, you obviously have not been watching him. Ive been to every Home and away game, and that man has orchestrated so many goals its un real. it was his pass to Gary o'neil at fulham that got us the 34 seonds goal. Its been his viaion that have teed up Lua Lua, Toddy and O'Neil on other occacsions. The man is going to be a legend, and im sorry but no matter how much money we have to spend, he WILL be part of the set up.

anyone remember Alan Gilzean and jimmy Greaves? Gilzean didnt score many but he set greaves up time after time.... Benjani could be the foil for Lua Lua or Todorov etc...

Terence don't get me wrong i think his effort and support play has been brill and i think it was 4 mill well spent as he has played a huge part in us staying up but... if we keep him he will play upfront with lua lua next year and neither are goal scorers! Between them this year (benjani both clubs) they have 10 goals. Lets say that happens next year we are down unless mendes scores 20 lol we need a goalscorer and if benjani and lua are both happy to fight for there spot with a good goalscorer then great if not then i think Benjani will leave. I would like to see a goalscorer, toddy, lua and benjani as our strike force next year but i feel if he doesn't score against Liverpool (to prove that that goal has set him off) then he will not be seen as the goalscorer we need to push on next year, in which case i can see him being third choice next year (will he settle for that?)

Point taken, but i think it will be Toddy, Beni McCarthy who will join in the summer, Lua Lua rotating the front 2 spots, andBenjani will become a Playmaker behind 2 of the 3. I would not be surprised if the 4 of them would be on the field and bench, giving us many options up front.

I wouldn't be too disappointed if Lua lua went and we got an out and out striker in.
