James left out

Fabio Capello had warned David James, and others, that they would need to prove that the are fully fit and would be able to last the pace at the world cup to be selected for the 2010 squad going to South Africa - his chances have taken a knock though after he was left out of the squad to face Brazil at the weekend...

It is 'said' that James struggles to play a couple of games in 7-days these days, so with it likely that he could be faced with the prospect of having to play around 3 in roughly this time span at the world cup next summer Capello has concerns over James' ability to do the job he needs?

After coming on against Ukraine in the last international window the Pompey keeper then missed the Belarus game, this is where the 'apparent' concerns started.

To be honest I am surprised that James has been left out - but is this because Capello has pretty much decided that James is going to be one of the 3 keepers he takes and wants to look at others, or does have serious concerns over James' fitness? Have we seen the last of James on the international stage?

For me he is still the bets English keeper around, but as mentioned Capello has said he will take no passengers, so if James cannot play the amount of games that 'might' be needed then he has to look at others I guess, right?

I guess time will tell if his time is up, and time will also tell if he feels this omission is anything to do with playing for Pompey - which will no doubt we will see further 'reports' about him and what his Pompey future will be this week as a result...

Yes, still the best English Keeper on his day but concerns about fitness are a worry. Our lowly league position wil not help either!

hmm, fair enough i suppose but without a decent keeper (of which i believe james is the only 1 we've got tbh) England will stand no chance of getting anywhere in this competition, the defence need to be able to rely on/trust the keeper and i don't see that happening with any of the other english keepers tbh. maybe i'm being a bit dramatic but i really see this as a huge blow to our chances. green and foster have continued to disappoint at national level and robinsons... well, enough said i think, Harts the only 1 i rate and he's far too young atm..

David james is by far the best keeper england has. Although capello will be wanting to make a statement to all the players in the squad: if you arn't fit and playing well, your out. Jamo is playing well... but aparantly lacks the fitness - at the moment.

I am sure that Capello will consider Robinson after that stupid goal he conceded against Pompey! I hope Capello won't do any stupid decisions. James is the best in England, and probably one of the best 10 in the world at this time!

I hope his England days aren't numbered - so close to his last chance at a world cup, but I can see Capello's point, and he has to play fair. Of course he's the best English keeper, no doubt about that.
