Pompey man of the match against Wigan

'Nadir Belhadj was the man of the match against Wigan', not my vote, yours - although these findings from pompeyrug's poll are thoughts that I do not necessarily agree with to be honest... That is not to say that I did not think he played well!

The Algerian came on for Steve Finnan just before half time when he picked up another injury, this saw Tal Ben-Haim - who had his best game for Pompey playing on the right - shift to right back and Belhadj came in at left back. To be fair to the guy he was a little unlucky not to have started the game anyway perhaps as he put in his best showing for a long time against Stoke in the league cup prior to the Wigan game.

Going forward has never really been an issue for Belhadj, it has just been defensively he can be shocking! But against Wigan, as he had Stoke, he did this very well - taking little, or no risks and defending like a defender should. His attacking threat had been a little limited this season as his confidence seemed to have drained, but again against both Stoke and Wigan this was back to what we had seen previously.

So, yep the guy played well but I still think that Michael Brown or Jamie O'Hara offered a little more, then you also have Hassan Yebda, Younes Kaboul and Marc Wilson - not forgetting the man who got a hat-trick, Aruna Dindane who not only scored goals but played well.

In fact they all played well as all in all this was a tremendous team effort!

It was actually Dindane that got the official Air Malta man of the match award.

  • What the poll asked - Man of the match against Wigan?

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded? You know what to do, thoughts below please guys...

Well although I put my mouse on Yebda's button, I really am a big fan of Belhadj. The guys like watching quick silver, and I think we'll be really pleased he's in our squad by the time this season is out. Ok, he's screwed up a couple of times in a defending, role but seems to be maturing with each game....Love Him.....

As you all know, Belhadj is my favourite in all the world, and if I had a son..... blah blah blah. Anyway, I did not vote, but I think Dindane should have got it for the breakthrough on goals, and he did work hard. But I must say that sometimes players really stand out, but not any more. Everyone is playing to well and contributing so much, all in their own way. (Although I am not very technical).

I'm with Gandor. Belhadj rocks...but not the best on Saturday. You gotta give it to the man with a hat trick, especially given his talent for bunging it over the bar hitherto.

Agree Penton very strange result to say the least, but I did not see the pole so I guess it was in the forum?

You sure this had many votes rug? Like I said before, if Belhadj can cut the crap then he can become a important player in the team. His attacking prowess and crosses are vital.

I think we need the poles(?) on the frontpage - too many of them slip by. PUP

My pick was Yebda. I thought Dindanne was very good, scoring 3 and creating the other. Ok, ok, two of his goals were Kanu's ideas but he did very well up front slightly behind Freddy. Belhadj? Yeah, he had a great game, but as a full back, Ben Haim impressed me for the good reasons for once last time out.
