Would you trade?

Would you trade?

I have just watched an interview with Jamie Ashdown on pfcTV, one where he confirmed that he has been seeking a loan move away but had not got it...

Among many things, one question put to him was 'would we swap the 3 wins that we have had in the league cup so far for 3 wins in the league?'

If we did this it would see us with an extra 9pts of course, thus taking our tally onto 13pts in total for the season and that would see us out of the relegation zone.

He said that he knows how much the cup means to the fans but ultimately he probably would opt for the extra 9pts...

It is a tough one, premier league survival is probably the most important thing as I fear for the consequences of relegation to be honest as I am not convinced that it will be 'as easy' as some might think, that said you cannot beat the cup can you, and as far as I am concerned as much as the league cup is viewed as a 'Mickey Mouse' one these days, if this was offered to me now I would be delighted to accept it!

Would I trade the 3 cup wins for 3 league wins though?

Now that is a toughish one...

All in all, as much as I do want to stay up and think we need to, like I said above, I am not sure I would as I still have dreams of seeing us at Wembley again trying to win another piece of domestic silverware, which would of course complete the set for us as we have the league and FA cup already secured, more than once, so lets add the league cup to this!

That said though we have some tasty sides left in the draw that we could face so we need to be at our very best for 'cup glory'... But I keep telling anyone that will listen that I think we will win the league cup this season!

So, what about you? Would you trade the 3 cup wins so far for 3 league wins and an extra 9pts to our tally at the moment?

As always let us know what you think by sharing your views with your comments below...

For me, yes I would gladly trade. Not that all the wins in the carling haven't been great for morale, but this season it's all about survival. Wembley is a nice thought, but we've done that quite recently, and at the time I for one felt a lot more proud of the club than I do now with all the recent off-field shanigans that are still going on an on. And as for Europe, it was fun but I don't think we're quite ready for another go right now. But I'll take last nights thrashing of Stoke gladly any day, well done Pompey.

No comparison - league points every time. PUP

'if', and it is a big if, we could go on and win the league cup to do this with a bunch of players that are as committed as this lot would mean a hell of a lot to me - do not get me wrong i loved the fa cup win but i would have loved it even more if the likes of benji, taylor, o'neil and the like had been involved...

league survival this season is a must i reckon but you cannot beat the cup...

No question - 9pts in the league !!! Altho ask me again when we come back from Wembley again - PUP

Definitely, even if I hate Pompey losing to lower league teams in the cup. Week-long embarrassment ensues.

Since i am very positive about us climbing out of danger very soon, I would not trade Cup wins. Think lads; what about Pompey finishing 17th and winning this Cup????? That is very very possible.... PuP.

i'd take the league points in a heart beat if i'm honest as much as the chance for more silverware is fantastic for the club maybe if we had the added 9pts the media would get off our backs and we could move on as a club!
28/10/2009 17:10:00
How about this one - four wins in the league (12 points) or four more wins in the cup (Carling Cup winners)?
28/10/2009 18:07:00
Yes without a doubt. It doesn't get better than winning the FA Cup for us at the moment and probably won't for many, many, years.
28/10/2009 18:11:00
9pts please... there isnt really a comparison. if we lose in the quarter finals (or even the semis/final) then actually those three wins are nothing except just wins. they do not facilitate in any way of competing at the highest level next year. battenberg - the answer is almost the same but as I jokingly put in another post, has there ever been a euro side in the championship?! premiership mediocrity (or relegation battle) reigns over any cup fetish we have in this country - yes a cup win is nice, but you have to be on the ball in the league (excuse the pun!) im sorry put id trade every win as 3pts in the prem - we might stand a chance then!
