'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Were they watching the wrong keeper?

I am amazed to see the official Pompey Air Malta man of the match go to David James! Yep I think a keeper getting this would be fair, had it been Heurelho Gomes, but did James really do enough to warrant such an accolade?

Paul Hart, by his own admission after the game said that James hardly had a save to make - a common thought that most of us shared, so with that in mind this is a most odd decision...

If you were ultra critical of James, something I do not like to be, you could maybe look at him a little for the opening Spurs goal - he started coming for the corner then changed his mind, so some could argue he was left in 'no mans land?' Although it was a good header from Ledley King, so I do not want to do him, or I guess Niko Kranjcar who put in a good delivery - where was this for us! - a disservice.

It almost seems like some of these man of the matches are 'hand picked' with certainly players earmarked for certain games perhaps? Whilst I thought Marc Wilson had a decent game against Fulham on the opening day it almost seemed like this was awarded as a 'morale booster' and this for James seems very much a 'this is how much you mean to us', seen as it was against Spurs after all the 'links' to them we have seen!

So, very strange, but you have to congratulate James on this, even if you, well I - as I cannot speak for others that might agree I guess - might not agree...

I definitely think Jamo was at fault for the first goal! coming for an out swinging corner and left stranded! I hope Air Maltas pilots have better eyes!!!!!

Perhaps they just like having Jamo on the island.

Crazy! they must have their heads in the clouds

Spurs only had three shots on target and two went it. End of story.

That's what happens when you let the prawn sandwich munchers make a decision!

wow did not catch that James got Motm. not a good week for motm awards hey?
Joshtottenham
Personally i thought Boateng should of got motm.

Jamo lost his positioning and confidence for the first goal, from my seat he wasn't at fault for the second, from my seat he wasn't man of the match; he got substituted; too positive I suppose

Pompey's MOTM was Boateng, easily. He ran the show, put in a tireless performance and topped it off with a goal. The Pompey man of the match system is pretty much given to whichever player can be bothered to go and have their photos taken in the hospitality lounge. I remember one time Sol didn't want to go so they ended up offering the man of the match to Richard Hughes. I believe this could be the same thing.

Boateng gave it 120%. But he was way too eager!!! I think I saw him trying impossible shots (when he should be passing) about 5 times.

Boateng was good. James hardly had anything to do and was in no mans land from the corner. For me it would be Tommy Smith. Game went down the pan when he came off and I think that the work he does is too important to ignor. Never stops running, holds the ball up brilliantly, always faces his man and did i mention he doesnt stop running!
brucey_main
it was Boateng or Smith all the way

Being half Maltese (mother is) & half blind, it's an easy mistake to make. They probably were enjoying too much red wine!!!
