Davids for Pompey?

In what The Daily Mail say is an 'exclusive' Edgar Davids going to come out of retirement to sign for Pompey!

EXCLUSIVE: Dutch star Edgar Davids to make surprise return to English football with Premier League strugglers Portsmouth - here.

The former Ajax, Juventus, Milan, Spurs and Dutch international has been without a side since leaving Ajax last summer but is 'said' to have opened 'tentative talks' with Pompey officials over a move to Fratton...

It is also 'claimed' that Leicester has been closing in on the 36-year-old after holding 'secret talks' with Davids over a £20,000 per week deal that we will match?

Davids has not played competitive football in well over 12-months but this time away from the game is 'said' to have 'revived his appetite' for it.

Quite how much Davids would have to offer 'if' there is any truth to this anyway remains to be seen - as good as the guy was I would find it hard to think he could return to the game after such an absence to cope with the demands of the premier league?

I guess it would be a boost to the club to attract a name such as Davids on a short-term contract, even if it is a name that is now well past his prime...

A last hurrah, a last good pay day. Always a gamble. Will he the enigma to set up for a few wins or will upset the balance of an average team slowly on the way up?

i would say that he is past it, but they also say that class is permanent...
my biggest concerns would be upsetting the harmony of the squad, and lets face it davids has been known to be disruptive in the past.

We need an old head in our position but perhaps not that old!!
eastneydave
he was a key component in us almost reaching the champions league in 2005, if he's fit he will be extremely helpful with bringing on your younger players to.

A year out of the game? At 36 it'll take another year to get fit for the PL.

I do not see this as a good idea. Apart from the fact that he is too old we have a evry good midfield. All we need is some finishing touches to start scoring. Against Spurs our midfield produced a good 10 chances! I think we should look at internationals who are not playing and are eager to start playing in order to get a place in their respective national team for SA. There are loads of them out there.

This guy is regarded in various places as having " a very strong personality" and "confident that his opinion is right"! Not sure this is a good move and I think he will just ignore Hart
