NIRVANA OR NADIR?
After the burst of games over Easter it now feels like one game a month, the anxiety between games is chest-tightening bad for the health, safety is so close yet we know it could spin round in a couple of minutes. At the time of writing, I don’t know which team will be the more nervous, Pompey or the Brum.
On the plus side for Pompey, should be the availability of Mendes and Lua Lua again, both making progress from their injuries. Also Wigan have more or less conceded defeat in their European quest and may relax a little more than normal.
Pompey’s edginess has shown in the last three games and I for one expect it to be evident again at the JJB, one bonus will be the support of 5,200 Pompey fans to roar on the blues and make it feel like a home game.
Newcastle are the form side in the Premiership at the moment with five straight wins, a UEFA spot is still a realistic target and they should represent a difficult opponent for our survival rivals, there is also the return of a certain Michael Owen to take into account, who will have a point to prove before the World cup in six weeks.
What we need now is our old captain to sit down with his team-mates and do us a last service by laying down the law,” time to relax lads, they need the points more than us, no point in getting injured for your holidays” (Here’s wishful thinking)
