You need not convince me Younes

You need not convince me Younes

It is little wonder that Younes Kaboul is such a fans favourite at Pompey, he continues to say and do the right things on and off the pitch - although to be fair I do not feel that he is doing this at all as he feels he 'has to', these are things that are genuinely meant and felt.

Today he has spoken to The News and makes it abundantly clear that he feels 'we can do it. We can stay up,' and we will do this so long as we put all the 'off the field' issues behind us and continue to 'give everything on the pitch and in training as well.'

Yep, I will concede this is not the 'greatest squad' in the world and is a far cry from previous squads we have had in recent years, but as I - and others - have said over and over this squad is probably one of my favourite in recent years because we have a bunch of players that are genuinely playing for the shirt, the club and the fans. And lets be fair this squad is also more than capable of getting out of the bottom 3, there are at least 3 squads worse than ours, our start has not helped us though.

For me this squad is worth much more than the 'superstars', well most of them, we have previously had and, despite the frustrations that I had felt at times this season, I am probably enjoying this season more than I have any other for donkies years - this feels more like 'the real Pompey' to me...

Kaboul also paid more compliment to Paul Hart and says that it is mostly down to him that we have kept going and our heads have not gone down: 'Paul Hart is a really clever man. He just keeps going, his head isn't down. He's always looking forward and he gives that to us as well, so that is why we keep going.'

As far as the Spurs game goes, what with his previous with Spurs, he says that it is just like 'every game' for him, it is not special at all or more or less important. Although he is right, you can rest assured that deep down this game will mean more to him than just any old game...

Clearly there is a belief in this squad that we can stay up, and as said the bunch of players - for me, and others - has that togetherness, spirit, and to be fair quality to do this and so long as this is retained anyone that writes us off does this at their peril. Younes and co are convinced we can do this, I myself do not need this convincing and nor will most of the Fratton Faithful, it is just those on the outside looking in that do!

Like you Rug, I am loving the passion of this squad. I am also loving all my so called mates constantly telling me we are going to be relegated as it is just adding more passion to my fire! If the players had half the belief I have then we will be just fine this season. The thing is, they seem to have as much as me, well at least it comes accross like that at the moment. This is why I know we will be better than OK.

Kab is a legend!!! so much pride, he really does put in his all, and so far I've seen nothing but 100% from him every game! We should celebrate players like him as much as poss, because its a rare thing these days!

I prefer Pompey playing with a team of 'rejects' who have something to prove, and go about building a great team spirit and a never-say-die-attitude. Much better than the players of greater talent who frustrate more often than not with their performances.

Psychologically this tea of 'rejects' do us a power of good. If they lose we're not too down cos they give their all, but if they win we're ecstatic. As Charlie said "it' a rare thing these days" to see a team give their all and fans that appreciate them for it.

As you say Blue, as fans, we are in a win win situation. Even when we lose, we manage to stay upbeat. As for kaboul being an allrounder, he most cetainly is. He thinks of the game, the team, the club, the Manager - and he even takes his shirt off for the ladies. Long may it continue!

A Spurs mate of mine says Kaboul's main problem is concentration span but if he keeps sweet talking me this way I couldn't care less

why is Kaboul not captain? he not only a great defender, but technically he is a great footballer. he has the leadership qualities as well

it would seem that kaboul does not want to be the captain? against everton, i think it was everton when mokoena came off the armband went to brown - who makes a decent captain for me - then when he went off this went round a host of players, including marc wilson, before finding its way to jamo... that, for me, suggests kaboul does not need/want the captains armband to show his leadership qualities?

Evans - Right back or right midfield?

Drew Talbot and Adam Buxton are fit but Gareth Evans continues to fill in at right back. Should this change? If so where would it leave the battle between Evans and Carl Baker?
