What would be the point?

I think it is fair to say that I have been back and forth on Paul Hart as the Pompey manager, but when all is said and done he is the manager so I back him and support him and the side, this said he has really grown on me the past 3-weeks or so.

I also have a lot of respect for the guy, as, at the end of the day - like he himself has said, much like myself and others also have - he took a job that no one else wanted and has done the best he could in difficult circumstances...

Not only this, Hart clearly has the respect and the support of just about each and every player in this squad, and that for me is worth something - they will play for him and the club and give everything, that suits me to be honest as that is all I ask. Who is to say that changing this now would see someone else given the same?

So, with this in mind this makes the 'reports' in The Star, which says they are from The Mirror, that he will be 'replaced at Portsmouth with new owner Ali Al-Faraj keen on a bigger name in charge' all the more odd!

Gordon Strachan, Alan Curbishley and Roberto Mancini are the names 'said' to be under 'consideration for the Pompey post'.

Chances are this is nothing more than reused and rehashed 'material' that was floating around last week sometime, although if not I again seriously question the point in making this change - especially as the side have started to play really well the last few games.

Hart might not have been my first, second maybe even third choice option back in the summer in all honesty but the fact remains that he took it when these guys did not want to know, why should we let them know now! Also he is the manager and has a decent bunch of players playing for him and the club, why bother tampering with this, even more so now as it is not like anyone else can bring in any new players, and would they even get as much, let alone more, out of players than Hart is?

Granted 'if' we cannot build on the Wolves win and pick up a decent number of points from the Spurs, Hull and Wigan games then fingers will be getting twitchy... We would just be going around in circles by making a change now and as the title says 'what would be the point?'

Itoo have come round to Paul Hart, he has shown a quiet dignity through the whole sorry episode. I was angry with him after the Bolton game, but have since come round. I think he deserves a chance. After all with all the upheaval we've had the last thing we need, the squad needs, is a change of manager, especially as they are just getting it together now.

Totally agree Rug, he should be given at least until xmas to prove that he can cut it, and the signs from the limited games I have seen have been all good, PUP

the players he has bought in are not big signings but look goodvalue for money. i think he has a good eye for a player and wouldnt want to waste pompeys money unlike someone i know. give him 20m in january and he could make a few more good signing. brown 500k bargain smith 1.8m ok start i think more to come from him o hara great loan i think hart insisted on him. lets hope he stays. prince - the best of the lost 4m and could become a pompey star. ben haim still has alot to prove.

Agree with you all fellas. I was dead against Hart when he was appointed but when he signed HIS team I was prepared to give the bloke a chance and see how they performed.. Well hat's off to the man his team are gelling really well and are showing the spirit that every Pompey fan wants to see - sleeves rolled up ready for a scrap - I think anybody would be mad to suggest he is not given the time to build on the foundations he has put in place - Well done PH .. Out of the bottom three by the end of November I reckon.. then onwards and upwards from there.

Im not convinced he's up to it yet, but given it is such a weak league this season I will give him the next 2 maybe 3 games, that's only fair. I suspect the article is just opportunistic drivel since Alf has given no interview and the names were those given at the end of last season; I never thought the mirror would be worse than the sun but it has sunk that low, alongvwith the mail driven by fatboy slime samuels

It would be very foolish for them to dismiss him. Like it or not your sqaud did not look like winning many games at the start of the season, but u are currently playing alot better IMO. if he can get KPB to play that well from a spurs fans perspective im amased!

Have to give him to January, or just before. I think the next 5 PL games put the ball in his court - Spurs is a potential banana skin, but the other 4 are definitely the ones where PH can show whether he deserves to stay or if new blood is required for the transfer window! This applies to the players also. PUP and good luck PH

gotta give him time, the players play for him, one thing id look for in january (funds suffice) is to sign o hara ... he will be worth it! he reminds me of matty taylor / GON etc. the sort of player we have been missing and hes certainly saying all the right things about how much he is enjoying it down here ... that must be in part to paul hart!

i hate benitez... but he would never leave liverpool for pompey he would move to spain !! would preffer to keep hart and spend the 10+ million what we would spend on his wages etc on players.

The names mentioned above are certainly not the answer. Like I said yesterday - this is Hart's team and it's about time we settled the ship and let him get on with the job. If things don't look like they'll improve by January then by all means get someone else in, but the last thing we need at the moment is uncertainty.

Anyway, as much as I like PH, I genuinely do, I really think that his times are numbered. Its a shame as he has been critisied by many for his lack of tactical nous, but from a bigger picture, he clearly hasnt had the players to effectively play many other shapes. I think PH should/will remain with us, and should be hansomly rewarded for his massive contribution - he has created a team who can apparently laugh and joke at the fact they hadnt been paid (could name many other Prem, or even champ squads who would have done that), and they have played some good stuff at times (apart from my first away game this season at Brum). However I really do not think he has the knowledge of the global market, and has the people skills to adapt how he works with players - he is what he is, and you get what you see. My longer term vote for successor - still Bilic I'm afraid.

Ok on it today - the news are going with a story, which I can only see written in the Sun, so hmmmm, Avram Grant is set to be appointed director of football this afternoon.

I really hope things work out for PH. He's deserved the chance to manage and to me that means a chance to have a team crafted out of a desperate "grab bag" gel under him. You do get the impression though that with Avram Grant coming in, PH will be on a short leash. If the past is any indicator, it won't bother him a bit and he'll still be around post January.

The only new signing that would make any sense now is a no 2.

There's not many managers who would have taken on the job when all the players were being sold and there was such a limited opportunity and funds to get replacements - Hart has done a fantastic job in those circumstances and has put together a dogged team of fighters who are giving their all for Pompey, it would be criminal to get rid of him now. Although now Grant has been brought in as DOF he is the obvious ready made replacement for around January time. But I guess if results pick up for Hart, and I think they will, he may get to keep the job.

To ge rid of Hart now would be an appalling thing to do. The man has steadied the ship in the past few weeks. Lets face it - we have all been worried sick about all sorts of things, but did we ever worry that PH was going to throw in the towel? No we didn't, even when his job got harder and harder and then his players didn't get paid. It would be the ultimate betrayal to offer the job to anyone who has already been offered the job but turned it down. ie Mancini.
