'If It's Football, It's Vital'

If its not one thing its another

Things can never be easy with Pompey can they?

We have a hell of a lot of dirt slung at us, some totally unfair but all in all we continue to allow things to happen that do us no favours - it is almost as if we are trying to shoot ourselves in the foot sometimes!

This season is proving hard enough as it is, both on and off the pitch for everyone at the club and mentally and physically draining for us, the fans, off it yet it just seems like we just keep adding one thing after another - and all this does is make the job, difficult as it already is, on the pitch all the more difficult...

Last weekend ahead of a very important game with Everton we had the whole saga with SAF. Where he 'called off' the meeting as he did not want to 'disrupt the players preparations', by doing this it would have only made things worse, only to put in on again! Thankfully he saw the light and decided to go ahead with this, and this proved worthwhile as it raised the fans spirits, which showed at Fratton last weekend - this saw another positive reaction from the players, even if we did lose again.

Then we come to this week, hopes are raised that we would bring Gary Mac on board, only to be dashed again. For whatever reason we 'could not agree a deal' - this was not due to money or his role at the club, a deal just 'could not be agreed'. My 'guess', and I must stress guess, would be something to do with a possible compensation pay-off 'should' the management change?

Other than that this weeks preparations for the potential 'season defining' game with Wolves this weekend were going ok, the build-up has been positive again and we see the full allocation of tickets sell out - we are all in high spirits then wham, news comes through today that 'the players have not been paid'...

Clearly the media would be over doing this with their 'reporting' of it, but this is not going to help morale is it!

The players would not be missing this money, as they are all loaded anyway, but the fact this has not gone through, for whatever reason, will not sit well with some - minds would have been taken off the preparations for Wolves and potentially all the good work, the good vibes - mentally and physically - could be undone is one swoop.

Nice one...

'Word on the street' has it that a 'change of bank admin' is what caused this issue, so it is not that we could not pay the players - again players that will not miss the money anyway! - it was just a genuine error that is easily corrected, but had the players been made aware that there could be an issue things would have ran a lot smoother.

Either way, genuine error or not, why do we do this - why can we not just do things the easy way?

I am having the distinct feeling of déjà vu now!

I went into the Everton game in high spirits and in a very positive frame of mind that week, then the 'meeting being called off' set me back. Again - and in light of last weeks performance as well - I have gone into the game with Wolves full of confidence, then this.

Like I say it is almost as if we want to aid our own downfall at times! Come on guys, lets sort it out eh...

Pompey have now issued a statement on the 'non-payment of players issue' via sky sports, which reads: 'Portsmouth FC can confirm that the first-team squad and executive board was not paid yesterday (Wednesday).

'The club is currently being refinanced by the owner Sulaiman al Fahim following the recent completion of his takeover.

'There was a delay in the transfer of funds but the lawyers have received confirmation that this will happen today which will enable the players to be paid within the next 24 to 48 hours.

'The players have all been informed of the situation.

'The executive board will continue to help the new owner in his efforts to refinance which has come about as a direct consequence of the banks' requirements to retain all television receipts and profits generated during the transfer windows.'

We have become the laughing stock of the league, picked on by everyone and written off before the season even started. If we lose the game on Saturday (especially via a silly mistake) then heaven help the players/staff and the pressure that will drop on them. This kind of error I am sure could have been avoided and does nothing but disrupt the players mental strength. It just doesn't help does it.

As you say rug we have a canny knack of shooting ourselves in the foot! How many times does this happen to us. The media will be all over this like a rash and bring more confusion and bad feelings to the club. When now more than ever we need to be building good vibes before our crucial game on Sat. Lets hope it is sorted out today and then everybody can concentrate on getting our Seasons first 3 points.

LOL.......I have got to the stage where I have to laugh at this kind of incompetence, still I hope for Chix's sake that we get the ball rolling with 3 this weekend, his system is not looking all too smart at the moment (I am on your side Chix) Lets just try to pull it all together for the weekend....PUP

Look like Administration to me if PS 'The cash has dried up' story is to be believed...or is PS trying to force SAF out?? http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/frattonlatest/Peter-Storrie-The-cash-has.5695394.jp

I would pick up on a couple of points in your article pompeyrug - constantly saying that those rich players can afford it is not the point. You have a contract with your employers for them to pay you a given amount at a given time, they should deliver it, it doesn't matter whether it £300 or £30000. Also my understanding is that a lot of the players have systems in place where the money goes straight into various investments and failure to invest on a regular date can result in penalties, you're right that in the grand scheme of things they can afford it but it's a moot point in regards to the current situation.

yep fair point, it shouldnt matter if they are paid alot of alittle it should be paid by a date agreed - errors like this shouldnt be happening tho and continue to do us no favours. also, to be fair to the players, altho they still get paid too much, the current crop are 'earning' this more so i am not as begrudging to them as i would have been others in the past had they moaned at not being paid.

I can't help but agree with yellow cheese monkey. Its all very well saying it will be sorted in a few days, but we keep being told things are going to happen soon. I'll keep hoping administration stays away but I'm not going to be shocked if it happens.

It seems to me the arab is trying his hardest to finish us off. two days b4 a realistic potential 3 pts, he has let this happen. Instead of being out working on their defensive and attacking frailties the players are being told individually in meetings why they cant afford to feed their families this week (possible over dramatic statement!) if that doesnt put negative thoughts in their heads then scummer supporter fahim (im sure he must be) will no doubt come up with another gem pretty soon! Get that plonker out!

The worst thing about Pompey's plight, on and off field, is the feeling of total helplessness to do anything about it. All we can do is be the 12th man and get behind the team on matchdays (and I can't even do that at the moment) - everything else all we can do is watch and wait and wonder what on earth is going to happen next.

Things are so bad that we are unable to afford any more bullets! Therefore any future attempts to shoot ourselves in the foot will have to use the trusty old fratton park catapult!!! JEEZ !

Trust me when I say that you have the sympathies of Mancity fans on this one, as we were in pretty much the same boat when the good Dr Thaksin Shinawatra owned our club. Admittedly we weren't in such a troubling league position, but the fact remains that there was no money and we were in deep trouble. I hope for your sakes the situation resolves itself in the very near future, as adding the inevitable points deduction that follows going into administrtation (yet more sense from the all knowing FA - talk about kicking someone when they're down!) will clearly not help your survival chances. Still, as they say, it's always darkest before dawn, and look where we are now? There's still hope that this buffoon Al Fahim has enough wealthy contacts to land you with a proper owner, as he was the person who brokered the ADUG takeover at City. Here's hoping that happens to you, you certainly don't deserve the crap hand you've been dealt. All the best.

Anyone looked at the statement on the OS? Looks like the rest of the board distancing themselves from SAF and a hint Pompey could go under in the next fortnight http://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/index.php?cms_ref=news&qs_article_id=2940

I want to continue with my fellow Blue above me, and tell y'all I truly am sorry for what is going on at your fine club. Hopefully something will happen very soon, that will turn all of this into nothing more than a very unpleasant distant memory. Good luck guys (and gals).

wow theres a lot of SAF bashing here today ... he said judge him in nov .. we said (in part) that we would ... so what? we cant pay the wages - we are not the first club to do this ... if they dont want to play for nothing then they shouldnt have come here (its not as if it was a secret were financially "unstable"). they know they will get paid eventually (even if its by small claims court). the thing is, and which isnt said enough, so Im gonna say it for every decent pompey fan out there .... F**K STANDARD BANK ... what a bunch of "bankers" ... theyve taken everything the club has got and still greedy to want more - so once more just to reiterate my hatred ... F**K YOU STANDARD BANK - were going to get loans from proper people and proper banks (barclays for instance) who dont INSIST on snap of the fingers money back... sorry for rant - im just annoyed that noone mentions it!

Thank you for your good wishes City fans. Colin Bell was my favourite player when I was a boy so I have always had a soft spot for your club. Also, well done to Paul Hart for staying so positive in these dire circunstances and keeping everyones spirits up. Quite a contrast with Jamie's Dad and his 'down to the bare bones' moaning and whinging that we used to hear so frequently.

If we beat Wolves, which we are very capable of doing so, we will get a good boost and this will lift us up the table. Remember, there are teams who have 4 points. A win will bring us very close to them.

Storrie thought he was a good'un but it's turned out that he's penny-less and going to ruin the club. So get your arse in gear and somehow get him out and some financially able owners in. I don't care about a new ground and big-name signings, save the ******** club.
