Gary Mac confirms Pompey 'chat'

'Reports' that Gary McAllister could join the Pompey coaching staff first surfaced yesterday morning, although these said he was going to be a coach and not the new no.2...

Late in the day BBC Sport 'confirmed' that Gary Mac would be taking up a role with the club, and would in actual fact become Paul Hart's no.2. To be fair to the BBC they are 'usually' pretty on the ball, are they not?

Today he has told The News that he is, or maybe even has come down for a 'chat' but would not say anymore: 'I'm coming down for a chat but I can't say anything more than that at the moment.

'Things might become a bit clearer soon but I am going to have to leave it at that for now.'

If he wants a job and we want to give him a job lets get it done - we could do a lot worse!

would love to see him onboard!

All Radio 5 Live evening news bulletins said they 'understand' he had taken the post - not a confirmation. Let's hope it's confirmed today.

Let's hope that Pompey have some good news for once this season! Get him signed up, he still has greta passion for football.

He turned the Scotland No. 2 job. I'd take him. He won a lot as a player, has a winning & attacking mentality. Desperately need that touchline presence!

Be interesting if he joining as a number 2 to Hart or to Strachan, as it appears that is the latest rumour on TribalFootball, with Hart moving upstairs to Director of Football
blarmy
Interesting theory, would quite like that as I rate Strachan and it also solves the problem of them having filled Hart's previous role, lets him take on an position overseeing all of the different levels and bringing them together. Something I think he'll be good at. Having said that the teams been doing alright the last couple of games, just can't seem to break our duck.

And that penalty!!

Come on Gary, don't be shy!

I reckon he will be our assistant manager, hope it's sorted out soon.

Sky reckon gary's unlikely coming Would be a shame -he's a decent geezer. I took my 11 year old son to see a pre-season friendly between Bray (near Dublin) and Leeds acouple of years back and Gary was really friendly to my kid -chatted bout Football for 10 mins or so

Gary Mac not coming! Why am I not surprised. Nothing ever is easy when Pompey is concerned! Hart wanted him but yet we could not come to an agreement? Beggars belief really. Unless of course Gary Mac was being totally unreasonable and wanting a kings ransom! mmmmmmm Who knows but the reality is we still don't have a NO. 2 and are still bottom of the league, winless after 7!
pompeymac
Seems it's not happening so, chats all folks !
