McAllister 'set for' Pompey role?

No, Pompey are not looking at Gary McAllister to become a player for us before any smart ass makes a comment :-)

McAllister is today being 'linked', by The News, with Pompey in a coaching capacity.

As a player the former Scottish international was like a fine wine, he matured with age and only got better, so at 44 maybe he could still do a job! Although, all joking aside, the job that he is 'thought' to be being lined up for is a coaching one at Fratton, but not as Paul Hart's no.2...

McAllister knows Hart from their days together at Leeds and is keen to get back into the game on a 'full-time basis', having turned down a position with Scotland recently as this was only part-time.

I cannot see any problem with adding McAllister to the coaching set up, if indeed we do, as he was a quality footballer who - to be fair - has a decent record as a manager in his own right, despite a fairly disappointing spell with Leeds back along. At Coventry he started off very well before resigning to care of his sick wife, who sadly later died when she lost her battle with cancer.

Time will tell if there is any substance to these 'reports', but as I say I cannot see any harm in adding him to our coaching set-up to be honest...

Any help Hart can get would be very welcome and Gary Mac certainly fits the bill.

I think he would be a quality addition to our coaching team. Need some more Scottish voices at the club since JJ left. But Gary why did you miss that Pen? It still gives me nightmares!
pompeymac
This would be good news indeed. Some extra passion, experience and another voice is what Paul Hart is probably crying out for. Bring in the Mac.
sneakay
Good news I say; Bring him on board...Can't do any harm!
pentonpompey
Could do a good job for us, i would of liked him to be Harts number 2 but not sure how good of a job he would do if he did.
PompeyFcMad
Let's stop the talking and let's have some action......... I say bring Gary in sooner rather than later, and let's start getting some points on the board. Play Up Pompey...........
Pompeyblue1949
Yeah got to agree with all the above, also heard a tounge in cheek comment about Macca from the Quay to become a number 2. That would also be a reasonable appontment as he clearly knows wha the's on about

gary mac is a well known figure in the english game, would get great respect and to be fair knows his football - we need to bring in more coaching staff as people having to double up isnt helping anyone, and i do not just mean the 1st team, i mean from youth upwards if coaches are having to double up duties their primary responsability is lost...
gary mac is also good with the media, so this would take some pressure off hart to have to do this side of things all the time aswell - something that jordan used to do well for us.

id be happy to see him at the club in any coaching capacity; id be delighted to see him at the club in an Assistant Manager capacity LoL alongside Strachan/ Curbs anyone of the many who are about to be linked with the Managers position. Actually only slightly tongue in cheek, in Europe its a coach that is responsible for the team when a manager gets kicked upstairs to a newly created "director of Football/ Coaching" role! Being an old cynic i think this role is created to avoid paying compo to a manager. Or the other case is the director of footy gets appointed and the manager walks away; also no compo paid.

This sounds a really positive news, and poor old PH needs all the help he can get! Certainly not having a number 2 isn't helping him any more than it did Tony Adams.

listening to the city game and they just anounced that he has joined us !!!
pompeyhussler
BBC have confirmed it, that is good enough for me
paultsmouth
I've always liked him, great news

All good news - certainly the most positive thing to have come out of FP for a while...
