Sol walks out on Notts County?

As I travelled home from Carlisle last night, checking newsnow on my phone in the car I read something about Sol Campbell walking out on Notts County?

Well, today this is plastered all over sky sports and BBC sport with it appearing that Sol has indeed walked out on County!

Less than 1-month, and only 1 game into his league two career, having signed a 5-year contract worth a 'reported' £10m the former Pompey captain is 'said' to have walked out after 'promises' were not kept about 'quality players' being signed and certain aspects of the clubs structure not being sorted out either. It is also 'said' that he was unhappy with the quality of the players at the club and the amount of 'mistakes' they were allowed to 'get away with'...

I find this criminal, and if this is 'officially' confirmed as him walking away - something the BBC say County will allow - I would be disgusted if any club picked him up!

For me Sol should have effectively announced his own retirement from the game as who in their right minds will take him on now? And why should they?

Although it would not surprise me if a certain someone, who is of course down to the 'bare bones', attempted to pull off some deal to take him back to Spurs, but surely this could never happen...

Some 'reports' say that he told his County teammates at training on Tuesday that he would not be coming back and said his goodbyes, with sky sports also reporting that the club hope to 'change his mind' - although I do not think you can change Sol's mind when it is made up, and if I were a Notts County fans I would not want the club to be trying to change his mind, but I would be expecting them to be seeking some form of compensation from the player!

You cannot just walk out of a contract like that, can you...

Why not ?.. If a job isn't right for you and you feel you (or they) have made the wrong decision why shouldn't you be able to walk away - In some respects it's the brave and bold thing to do. Obviously we don't know all the facts (but I'm sure they will come out in the next few days) but lets say (or assume) that Sven promised Sol this and that and then never delivered would that not mean he has been let down and therefore justify his decision to leave...

I think the Sol to Spurs thing is a timebomb waiting to happen and I'd personally love to see it .. Jamies Dad shows his arrogance and disrespect for the fans by bringing Sol back home only to become the 'hated one' for doing so.. and (some) Spus fans have to watch in agony as they endure the sight of the player they have loved to hate for all these years representing there club... It would be a bit like a Manager leaving Pompey and then managing Saints .. Only to come back ... Please please please give SOL a job 'floppychops' .. Your arrogance is such that you think you would be able to convince the Spurs faithful that it is the right thing to do.. They would have you out on your ear quicker than Jack Flash .. then where would you go ?... and dont anybody even consider it !

Bring Sol home! Get rid of Mokoena. I know hes on big money but shows the depths we have come, to swap our captains from big sol to a useless light weight doughnut. Sign him on for one game (everton) he seems to like short contracts!

Actually the spuds game would be better he always plays well against them

More great news from our new 'saviour'! Seems more interested in a chess game than getting us out of the s'h'i't!http://fourfourtwo.com/news/spain/37990/default.aspx

Love it Chix ! Come on twitchy, ignore everybody else and give Sol a job (perhaps on the coaching staff if nothing else), Honestly the fans will be right behind you !!!! oh please, oh please, oh please

Sol who? Seriously though agree 100% with Chixy. Go on 'Arry, take Campbell back PLEASE!!

Hmm, interesting stuff. Well, if Droopy Chops wanted to sign him at Spurs, he'd have to wait until Jan 2010, which by then his injured players will be back, and Sol would not feature anywhere but on the bench with Crouchie. Bit suspicious, considering that Notts County are being investigated over the recent takeover. Watch this space is all i can say!

Well Spurs are short of central defenders, don't rule it out. Another ex-player to face next month then?

"If a job isn't right for you and you feel you (or they) have made the wrong decision why shouldn't you be able to walk away" Depends on the terms of the contract. If NC had ditched Sol he would be looking for compensation, why shouldn't it work the other way round? One of the problems in football nowadays is that contracts are rarely honoured. You give a player, and managers, a decent long-term contract but if more money is offered by another club they're off like a shot.

Well, it won't be next month, as he can't join another football club until jan 2010 at the earliest...

the problem with sol is he seems to think that everything happens 'now' and not with time... if he was happy with a 5-year plan 4-weeks ago why isnt he now? the fact that he is not happy, for me, does not give him the right to turn round and decide that he wants out and quit - he cannot sign for anyone until janaury now, and it serves him right if no one picks him up, which - as said above - i do not think they should! he made his bed, so let him lay in it!

He is so going to Spurs. Ha ha ha ha.
stillthewhizz
My uinderstanding is Sol cant sign for, or train with, another club until January; is that right??
russellm
If his contract is cancelled i.e. he has no employer then he can sign for whoever hw wants.. To stop him would be restraint of trade.

Yep Chix is right a lot of people give up a job after a few days if they know they have made the wrong decision.
eastneydave
However I gather that The Football League have confirmed that Campbell will not be able to join another team until the January transfer window; having already been registered as a Notts County player
eastneydave
Can we excahnge him with Mokoena??? :)
