A Villans' point of view

A Villans' point of view

steff_the_villan - from Vital Villa answers some questions ahead of the Villa v Pompey game this weekend.

Early days I know, but are you happy with how your season is going so far?
The opening day was a disaster, and I'm talking about the lack of performance and desire more than the result, I don't mind losing 2-0 IF we have worked our socks off and put the effort in, but we didn't! Many of us were seriously concerned by that 'performance'. But credit where it is due, they have turned it around, a night to remember at Anfield and a good result in the local derby will always put a smile on your face, out of Europe unfortunately but at 6th with a game in hand on all above except ManC, I would have to say I am happy.

Martin O'Neill is buying mostly British, well English. Is this a good or bad trait?
I believe it to be a good trait, I'm not saying I would turn down the likes of Kaka or Messi, and talent is always welcome, but to have a core of experienced, proven premiership players gives a good foundation and can only help with team cohesion.

Are the club treating the fans well, or are they fleecing you?
I'm one of the lucky fans who snapped up the North Stand ST offer, which I believe was £250 in the first season, what more can you say? £250 for a ST says it all, three seasons later it has gone up by £45 in total, still a bargain, when you add this to some of the other treats, free scarves, flags, supporter travel, free prem/cup tickets for those who went to the last Euro game, along with the usual cheap family deals and special offers/promotions, I couldn't be happier, it appears that we have a fantastic, benevolent owner, who appreciates and looks after the supporters.

Who do you think has been your best summer signing and why?
We picked up a young lad from the lower leagues called Fabian Delph, he's only dipped his toe in the Prem so far, but he shows an awful lot of promise and natural ability, time will tell obviously, but I have a feeling he might be something special.

Could you have done with more arrivals - if so in which areas and maybe even who?
A creative midfielder and a striker would have been nice additions, so maybe one of Gerrard, Alonso, Pirlo or Fabregas, and up front one of Rooney, Drogba, Henry or Villa (for the shirt sales as well as the talent)

What are your expectations, or hopes for this season?
That's an easy one, top four and silverware please Martin.

What about Pompey, what do you think we should expect or hope for?
Survival! We could go into detail about the woes that have befallen your club, but I wouldn't need reminding, so I'm sure you don't, You have a battle on your hands this season, not only staying up, but keeping your players, I seriously do wish you luck.

Who is the real danger man that Pompey need to watch?
Young, but you know that, and so does your manager and your team, which is why he will attract the attention of 2/3 of your defenders at all times.

If you could take any Pompey player and put him in your squad who would it be and why? Although I doubt you would have any need for any of our 'superstars!'
Turning the clock back a touch, I would have had Distin, but I would have no hesitation in taking Calamity James back, class is permanent.

Is there anyone that you would like to send Pompey's way?
You need help not hindrance! Super Marlon Harewood could do with getting his career back on track, you'll find no lack of desire in that young man, feed the Hare and he will score (possibly!)

It appears that Nicky Shorey's move fell through as we could not guarantee him a 1st team place - do we missed out or do well to avoid him?
You missed out, he's a talented, hard working lad, when I heard the news he was going out on loan I was shocked and I must admit I was happy it fell through, we need the cover.

Go on, who's going to win?
Wouldn't matter who we were against, my Claret and Blue tinted specs never see anything but a Villa win, and a big one, 4-1 to the Villa.
I wish you luck for the rest of the season (apart from the return leg)

Questions answered by steff_the_villan from Vital Villa - my answers to their questions will appear over on their site in due course.

good stuff apart from the prediction 4-1 i don't think so, if our back line ain't more solid than last week after a weeks training we've got problems, and we'll probably be playing a 4-5-1 again so i wouldn't expect many goals :P

Vital Pre-Match - League 2, 1st October

The 2016-17 season continues with the latest round of matches this weekend, which will see us among those having a match in this upcoming schedule with three-points the aim of course.

Tollitt still has a Pompey chance

Well, according to Cook. He's insisting Tollitt, the former Everton academy player who had returned to Merseyside to join Tranmere on loan, can still return to Pompey.

Pompey win and lose collectively

As such Cook doesn't want the fans to start turning on individual players, which has been the case with Bennett with Smith not exactly viewed as a 'fans' favourite' either.
