'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Bring on the Villa!

'Villa Park against Villa this weekend is where we will pick up our first point(s) of the season', not my vote, yours - although these findings from bluedr's poll are thoughts that I am just happy to hear to be honest...

It is my firm belief, as you all know as I say it enough, that there is no point taking part in a game if you have already written it off before you even play! Whilst I will acknowledge we will do well to get anything from Villa, it is far from impossible that we cannot pick up at least a point.

With a weeks training behind them as a full squad this 'should' help boost the understanding and will also enable the coaching staff to implement a few more ideas.

One thing that I know we cannot afford to do is give Villa as many chances as we gave Bolton, as Villa will punish us far more if we do that again - it is also essential that we take the chances we get, as again we might not get so many as we did against Bolton, so to miss these would be even more costly - even though we lost - than it was against Bolton.

I like the positive thinking on this poll, I know that I am not going to Villa Park myself for a 'jolly', I want to get something so lets just hope we can pull it off...

  • What the poll asked - When will we see Pompey get their 1st Premier League Point of the season?

  • How you voted - Aston Villa 31%, Wolves 28%, Everton 15%, Christmas! 15%, Hull 7%, Spuds 2%, Wigan 1%, Blackburn 1%

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded? You know what to do, thoughts below please guys...

2 - 1 Villa. Nicky Shorey to come off the bench and score the winner.

I cant see us grabbing a point at Villa rug, I can see 6 and 0 and possibly 7 and 0 after Everton, Im afraid for my team very afraid.... SAF we need some action!!!! Although nothing would change in the way I support Pompey, I would be gutted if we went down, then I wouldnt get to see any games!!! Come on boys, please please prove me wrong..... PUP

At least the majority of the voters were more positive.

soon the winning floodgates will open, and then tide will come in. believe me, once pompey have one two or three games every team will not look forward to playing against pompey. Are season starts on the weekend against villa, and we will win

Well said Pompeyjoe, I agree. Although, I think we will only come home with one point, if we come home with any. If we come home with nothing, then that won't be so bad either. It is Aston Villa after all, and there would be no shame in losing to them. So come on cheer up all, Everton will be the real test!

Have just visited Vital Villa, it seems the majority there think we will be a push over, although one or two have mentioned that we are starting to gel and have shown a little quality. The players have asked Hart for double training sessions this week - surely a good sign? In my book that shows our players are raring to go. Lets hope that the Villa team are as complacent as their fans..... and that Hart gets the tactics right!

Last time we played Villa Belhadj disgraced himself. (Villa Belhadj...sounds like a great name for the gaff)

I have seen Villa playing against Birmingham. We can win, only if we are solid at the back, useful in midfield (no problem with that lately) and lucky up front. I have belief in this Pompey side.

A lot of what has gone on so far has been down to luck. Ours has got to change soon, it just has to. No one had us down to lose the match on Saturday, it was bad luck re the ref and everything. The players on the pitch (I won't call them a team yet), showed a lot of promise, thy can only get better the more they play.
