One for the future...

Amidst all the build up to Bolton, and then the fall out of the defeat, the news that The Pompey Site broke on Saturday afternoon that Florent Cuvelier had signed his first professional contract with the club was missed...

The 17-year-old midfielder has made enough of an impression during his time with the club on a scholarship programme to have now signed a 2-year pro contract with us, with youth operations director Paul Smalley thinking that we will see him make 'significant progress' with the club: 'he had a very good summer programme and got himself into good shape, although he's got a little bit of a foot injury at the moment.

'There's a lot of potential there and we see him making significant progress here at Pompey.

'He's also a model student who is doing well with the educational programme that we provide.

'We've got a network around Europe and he's a result of that. We had him over for a while prior to offering him a scholarship and he showed a lot of talent.'

The Belgian youngster is said to be a 'versatile player' but a role as an 'attacking midfielder' is where his future is believed to lie.

Welcome to the professional ranks Florent, hopefully you can make 'happy' inroads into the 1st team in the not to distant future...

Here's hoping players like him, Pack, Kilbey, Ritchie, Ward and Wilson can all make the step up in the next few years. Would be nice to have some decent youth teamers come through.

ritchie scored 2 goals on the wkend and could of had a hatrick on his full debut if he took the pen. he keeps banging in the goals from midfield. WE MITE NEED HIM BACK IN JANUARY gotta be an option on the left. am glad we didnt sell him.
