Webber deal confirmed

Webber deal confirmed

The Pompey Site has confirmed that free agent Danny Webber has signed for Pompey.

The striker, who has signed a 2-year contract, joins much to Paul Hart's 'delight': 'when I found out Danny was available I asked him to come down and train with us - and I was delighted with what I saw.

'He plays off the shoulder of defenders and gives us another attacking option.

'I wanted to sign him when I was at Nottingham Forest, but he went to Watford. He's another one who's hungry with something to prove.

I know the 27-year-old former Manyoo striker has been troubled by some injuries in recent years but if he can stay 'injury free' and show his 'goalscoring form' of a few years back then in all honesty, as far as free agents go, I think that he is - goalscorer wise - the pick of the bunch linked with...

Is he good enough though?

Only time will tell. Lets just see how things go, if you do not expect too much you cannot be disappointed, but at the same time we should not accept too little. Like I say lets just wait and see at the end of the day he knows where the goal is, so it is another option, he is now our player so as long as he gives 100%, if/when called upon, what more can you ask?

To be honest I did not even know that Sheffield United had released him in the summer, but I am also slightly surprised that no one else picked him up? Which ultimately, although I want to be positive, leaves the question, why not...

Another championship reject. Yes PH wanted him at Forest but they wern't a prem team then & havn't been for a while. Well if this motley crue doesn't gel, he'll be out of a job & these players will back in the championship.

Not good enough for Sheff Utd therefore not good enough for us, this is another ludicrous waste of money, there must be better players available.

Not on the wages we are offering I fear Owens.. Still if the fellas do get it together and pull us out of the situation they will be considered heroes.. For me Webber is not an inspired signing at all but he's another stiker who will be hungry for goals .. sometimes it only takes one to win a goal.. I'm thinking positive ..

AF says there will be no chance that PH is getting the sack anytime soon. with signings like this God help us PH is also looking around the local pubs team to find some new talent .& they wonder why the FP attendances are at our lowest ever for the PL!

Trouble is, it takes more than effort to score in the prem on a regular basis, that's why championship strikers tend to dry up when they get to the prem. Maybe a good impact player off the bench if he does have the pace some speak of as his chief asset. Judgment is reserved, but I wouldn't bet on him being a great success. One for the reserves I fear.

it doesn't necessarily mean he wasn't good enough for Sheff Utd..like campbell was good enough for us but left anyway...i always thought he had a bit of something, but I am worried about the quality PH thinks is good enough for the Prem...or SAF is planning for the championship.
