Camara on his way?

On Sunday evening The Mirror was 'claiming' that Henri Camara was 'set to join Portsmouth's survival scrap', and this morning The News says that the former Saints striker is 'close to a deal'...

Camara's name has been mentioned a few times recently, so with him still being a free agent he could sign.

Hull, who had been desperate to sign a striker, opted against doing so with Camara over the summer after the Senegalese international had a trial spell with them, which does leave you thinking 'why did they not sign him?'

When he first came to England he started very well but seems to have been on the decline ever since - with failed moves with several England sides, and Celtic I think? Then again, on the right deal, if used in the right way he could do us a job, right? To be fair if he does get it right he will score goals!

It is 'said' that he will sign a 1-year contact...

I agree it's odd Rug, I think it's a cover option for Dindane and lets be honest Kanu is not the fittest or fastes; also it might just to keep some competition pressure going
russellm
Why let Nugent go ?...
Chix
Because he was complete rubbish mate, its a shame we have taken so long to admit it!!
Owenspompey
So is Camara any better than Nugent?
tracyc
not complete rubbish... just at finishing... had some positive aspects. I was surprised we didn't go for Alan Smith to fill in on the right, he had his best season in the Prem the year he went down with Leeds playing RM. Anyway. I can see this being an injection of real pace in the forward line while we wait for Dindane to come back from injury. PH says he doesn't want to rush him and as a result I can see the need for cover.
jim4pompey
Not convinved...this guys failed as much as the Nuge......surely we can do better deals....but if its a pay as you play deal, 1 year then maybe OK.....but it worries me
Fratton del Sol
He looks similar to Piq and Dindane as a bulky, pacy striker. His premiership strike rate is better than Nuge's. If he is ready to play, why not offer him a short-term deal?
wellyit
My mother has a better strike rate than Nugent, Camara has more pace and ability than Nugent ever will.
Owenspompey
My other concern is that it seems to me we will have yet another player off to the African Cup; I can just here the club complaining about African countries now.
russellm
na russellm senegal aren't gonna qualify for ACON, same as zimbabwe and south africa so we won't be losing mokoena or diop either, and also the players that do go will only miss 3 PL games max cause of an FA cup weekend
pompeym@
Surprised when I heard Hull turned him down but Hull did sign 'Jan long name from Holland'. Ok we give Camera a short term deal. Another in the list of quanity over quality!!!
storagematt
no thank you. don't want him.

I'm not sure Nugent was as bad as some people think, he needed a run in the team in his rightful position, the only time he got to string any games together he was played out of position. Camara might be a good signing if he finds his form.
Steve C
A big no no from me, hasn't got the fight in him...And that is about all that can be said about Nugent...He's got the fight in him, but no talent.
pentonpompey
on free with a Lowish wage..i would take him..always liked him when he was playing well..`I remember a couple of good goals against us he scored...one we beat his team 4-1 at FP..i think he scored for Wigan too in the great escape game..or was it teale...
plymouth graham
ild prefer to have utaka having another shot up front. i like him up there and he has pace to burn. ild rather we followed up zenden.
ruffcider
You sure him and Utaka aren't cut from the same cloth?
hammersmithblue
I think he would be a alright signing he can score goals ad thats what we need. Also speaking of free agents, Roberto Carlos anyone? lol He could come here but hes getting older, but looks like he might be going to Notts County anyway.
PompeyFcMad
henri camara. no thanks. his attitude stinks. another one here for the money and I'll be off on loan if things don't go exactly as i want. waste of space and a scummer to boot.
