'Younes Kaboul was the player of the month for August', not my vote, yours - although these findings from the forum poll to determine who was our stand out man for August are thoughts that I do agree with to be honest...
All in all I think that Kaboul (66.67%) deserves this accolade as he has driven us on from the back showing true leadership qualities on and off the pitch. He has never given in, nor had most to be honest, in any game.
This now leaves me thinking that perhaps he is the better option as captain, as assuming he is fit, I would expect him to be our first choice pick at the back, be this as a central defender - where I think he needs to be - or a right back defending well and bombing forward. Aaron Mokoena shows these leadership qualities too, but keeping him with the armband would suggest that he is a regular in the midfield, and for me him keeping his place is not as assured as Kaboul, nowhere near it, or at least should not be...
I think that mentions for August also need to go to:
Marc Wilson might have got 0% of the vote but he came in and did a job, enough, for me, to prove that he is just about ready for a major 1st team role if needed - he had bulked up over the summer and added to his game, his main problem just seems to be staying fit along with the usual 'what exactly is his best position?' I feel that this is just in front of the back 4...
Nadir Belhadj (14.29%) grew in stature as the month went of, getting to grips more with his defensive duties as well as getting forward with his offensive ones offering us a good outlet down the left.
Freddy P (9.52%), well I think we all know what Freddy P is all about now - he runs tirelessly into either flank, he just needs more support and supply as the striker, which I think he now has so lets hope the goals start coming to match his performances.
Hayden Mullins (4.76%) had a game or so, or moments in some where it left me slipping into my usually 'why do we bother with him' thoughts, but to be fair he has had a 'decent' start to the season and had offered us an attacking outlet from the midfield, one that I did not think he had! He will be hard pushed to be a starter now, but should make a good squad player this season...
