'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Diop the next to commit

If we are not signing players - and we have done a fair amount of that in the past 72-hours or so - we are getting them to sign new contracts...

Hot on the heels of the announcement from The Pompey Site that Kanu had committed for the rest of the season Papa Bouba Diop, another of the FA cup heroes - see there are a few left, has agreed an extension until 2011.

Peter Storrie is happy to have tied the midfielder down: 'it's good news. Papa's a strong midfielder and it's great that he has committed himself to Pompey.

'Papa wanted to extend his contract last season but he injured his knee so first we wanted to make sure he was fit and there were no problems. That's the case so we were keen to get him signed up.'

The option of another year on top of this is also available should he/we choose.

Another good move by the club, as if we have Papa at his best - so long as he is not shooting - he will be of great benefit to us, we just need him to stay fit as well!

A great show of commitment from the club and from Papa .. Well done all concerned

ere ere - Papa is up for the fight and that is what we need. You have to take the good times with the bad and I would think survival this season would match winning the Cup for some players. The whole world is against us at the moment and that is when we (Pompey) are at our best.

I agree Dave I will take 5th from bottom now. This news, it's another drop of that good news stability thing; all goes towed that team spirit thing. Just need the manager and the urgently needed assistant to turn it around on the pitch

I feel so beleaguered by public opinion that - funnily enough - I am now convinced that we will be OK. A sort of Dunkirk spirit. As long as we're not getting shelled from the beach we should be ok.

We r his family...that's what he is telling us! Shucks, it brings a tear 2 my eye!!!

Take note Spurs-tmouth players, this is called loyalty and commitment. Excellent news.

All we need now is for Jamo to sign a new contract!

Well done papa. Now we have an axe and a wardrobe in midfield! (I feel a song coming on....)

Great news, I've always rated him highly and am chuffed he'll be around for a while. He's gonna score in a minute, score in a minute...

... or in an hour, or in week, or in a month, or in a year ... if the guy has nothing, he is sharing the 0 goal record in a league match for Pompey with Hughes. Great news, he is not a scoring midfielder, if you had to look at his scoring record with previous clubs you'll understand.

I like Papa, has limitations, but you know he is solid and will put it about, and he goes down just like Kanu!

I have always rated this guy very highly - had a fantastic spell for Fulham before his injury. Got in the box for crosses and was a huge presence in the midfield. Manure were after him just before his knee went. I'm sure a leader like performance this season is coming on!
jim4pompey
It is good news, as long as he stays away from the penalty areas! I just wish I hadn't become so cynical lately, I read 'Pompey are my family' and my first reaction is 'he's the next one out in January then'. What's happened to me?

Let's hope we get a fit Diop. Let's hope we get a Diop who can score a few. Oh yes off to the very important African Cup in January too!!! Time to stand up & be counted Diop. Not surrounded by world class players now that can cover for you. We need you more now than before & now is the time to show it!!!
