Nugent leaves for Burnley

Right at the death Dave Nugent left Pompey to join relegation rivals Burnley on loan.

Although not 100% confirmed to Peter Storrie, talking to sky sports news, at the time he did say that a loan deal - with the option to buy - was agreed with Burnley at the end of the window.

Good luck to Dave, things just have not worked out for him here have they...

Storrie did not exactly paint a pretty picture about regarding David James though? Although it might just have been me the way I viewed it.

He seemed to suggest that talk of a move was more from James and his agent and had any firm offer come in - other than a swap deal with Carlo Cudicini - he probably would have gone?

So, there we have it, it is done and dusted, although I still feel a free agent or 2 could, and possibly will, arrive between now and Bolton - I am off now as I have a train to catch home...

Like you say, it never really worked out for Nugent here, so best of luck to him. As for Jamo, hopefully things will start to pick up a bit at FP now with our new owner and new signings, and by January, he'll be happy to stay again. At least he's first choice here, and he needs that for his England place.

hmm, well i not sure to be happy about nugent leaving or disappointed, he's seemed like he genuinly wanted to play for us and do well and so credit where its due but my god he was useless and that miss last week at city was the final straw i think, it was pretty much done there and then. but that said i hope he does well at burnley and it is a loan so we can recall him *whistles* ;D

Good luck to him. He always gave his all. So long as his goals don't keep Burnley up at our expense!

Good luck Nuge!! Russell only score 20 goals if the goals are bigger up north.

I totally agree Rug about Storries summin g up of James and his agent. I took it as a dig at him as well. I wasn't exactly bowled over by his summing up of Dr Potless either. Strikes me he didn't exactly know where he got his money from...Hey it's never dull being a Pompey fan is it?

I am closing my eyes and seeing him score a hat trick for Burnley at Fratton Park. Wake me up, someone!

Don't worry HSB, Nuge only scores against the lower teams - Aaargh! That's us now !!! Rug, I read it the same way from Storrie about James; but, if he wants his England place back he will have to get his head straight and knuckle down....I'm sure all will be well (until January). Well done PS, I for one am a lot happier with our resources today than I was a few weeks ago. Sure we've had to cut our cloth and amend wages accordingly, but that's not a bad thing...I see no reason why this squad can't reach a safe position, possibly with a bit of addition in January, once Dr SAF's Ocean Finance loan has been approved!!!

If we had a really charismatic manager this could be moulded into a side that really felt like they could be contenders. Blimey, even Roy Hodgson can do wonders and he's hardly Mr Charisma!

I disagree HSB. I like Roy Hodgson, he's like someone's grandad.

if Nugent had been good enough he wouldn't have missed from 5 yards on Sunday, good luck to him at Burnley, hopefully he'll play every week and miss plenty more like that.by the way, if he scores against us at Fratton Park this season ,someone really hasn't done their job right,he shouldn't be playing!!

Have to say, that I bear no malice to Nuge, but why send him out to a clear relegation contender. We still look like we are in for a battle. Still do not have a bucket load of creativity, and will still probably struggle this year - that is not negativity, that is recognition of the resources that we have. Williamson - Poor signing, and never worth three million in my opinion. Yebda - needs to prove himself over more than one season in portugal. Ben Haim ? - not convinced, but at least has premiership experience, even if all his clubs have been less than excited about him. Brown - looked OK ish on Sunday but we will see.... guarded optimism O'Hara - Sounds good capture Boateng - solid. Dindane - Exciting thought 3 years ago, now ? Hopeful but needs to prove it. Hart? - wouldn't know how to use creativity if it came with a guide book. On the bright side, at least we stepped up from Eugen Bopp etc. I think we will be OK but not comfortable to help our close rivals. Now, assessment over - Play Up Pompey, Pompey Play Up No more moaning from me!!!!!!!.

Personally, I think it's a plot to ensure burnley finish below us this year - I think Nugent will continue to miss his chances and that will lose Burnley points.

I think the release of Nuge means Utaka has an important part to play and finally as a striker. I can see Hart utilising his infamous 4-5-1 / 4-3-3 where either Piquionne or Dindane are up front or on the wing with Utaka on the other side. There's competition for places and that's good.

HSB, no chance of hat-trick at Fratton, he won't be allowed to play

personly i think he will still play 4,5,1 but we will now have piq upfront with smith right and dindane left so more suport. plus with brown holding and ohara prince and this new guy from benfican in... looks like the grab twins will be left out ..

He will come good now, I'm sure of it. A regular run of first team football and playing alongside another striker will do him the world of good. Hope we haven't pre-agreed a price for when the loan ends.

actually I'm gutted he never quite made it here... he was one of Harry's few "different" signings... youth and potential. Paid a good fee as well - bordering on england. I really really wanted him to make it here.

personally I would have swapped Jamo for Cudicini as well and have built a new relationship with Begovic and the new back 4
