Williamson joins Pompey

Mike Williamson has been confirmed on The Pompey Site as our latest signing.

The defender has arrived from Watford for an undisclosed amount, 'said' to be around £3m, signing a 4-year contract.

Paul Hart is happy with the signing: 'he's a young, hungry centre-half, a big lad who's uncompromising and does the basics first.

'We've watched him play and he's shown great promise which hopefully he will build on under our guidance.

'We were a centre-half short before Sylvain Distin left but now we have Tal Ben-Haim and Mike Williamson.

'We signed Ben-Haim to fill a role and Mike has come here to prove himself as a front-line player.'

Many said that they wanted a couple of central defenders to arrive, so in Tal Ben Haim and Williamson we have this so how can we be unhappy?

We have strength in-depth in this area now - which was a must.

Younes Kaboul and Ben Haim will be the first choice pairing but in Williamson, Aaron Mokoena, The Herminator, Marc Wilson and Joel Ward - although I expect him to go out on loan - to name but a few, we have plenty to chose from and these will do a job.

I am sure that in the long-term, and now when called up - and I do not think he will be a regular week-in-week-out this season - he will do a fine job so lets not write off Williamson before he has a chance to show what he can do eh!

Has a lot to live up to but he is English and relatively young! Ex Southampton might not help him though. He was at Wycombe Wanderers this time last year.

watford Vital has given him a right going over...very snide... i have to say i am happy with the look of the team Krackedjar was initially a disappointment after his good show against MCFC -for the Telly I suppose.

£3 is alot some may suspect, but if we manage to get a good player out of him in the next year or so, that would be great. If Hart is happy, I am happy.

I suppose £3m from Watford suggests they rate him... but then I worry why other teams around us weren't in for that sort of money and whether it wasn't better spent up front.....

Still very young for a c/back, could prove to be a good investment

Wycombe fan here. This guy is quality. Very solid and decent ball player. (On the down side i may be mistaken but i think Wycombe took him from South***ton). [Sorry about the swearing!]
