Yebda also now confirmed

'Reports' coming out over the past 24-hours or so were saying that Hassan Yebda had 'officially' joined Pompey, now that The Pompey Site has confirmed this so it really is now official...

The midfielder has joined us on a season loan from Benfica, where he had been a regular last season but summer arrivals with the Portuguese giants have seen him slip down the pecking order.

My main concern about the guy is the fact that he is yet again another defensive minded midfielder and we have just about enough of these to put out a starting 11 - which also concerns me as we cannot afford to go overly defensive can we, although to be fair we are beginning to also bring in some attack minded players so lets get the balance right.

It is another body, and signings are what we have all cried out for, and although you do not want to look too far ahead what we also have to remember is we will lose several bodies to the African nations in January, the French midfielder will not be one of these!

Or, maybe not as he is an Algerian international, having opted to play for them so maybe we will miss him in January, Algeria have qualified, right?

I think he's only played for France Under 17's - won the U17 World Cup, though (or something)

Africa nations qualifiers are the same as World Cup qualifiers and these haven't been completed yet.

I was reading Portu-Goal.net the other night and they seemed really surprized that he was being allowed to leave Benfica .. He was considered one of their better players last season.. But as you say Rug .. how many Defensive Midfielders do we need?
