Hart on Arsenal defeat

Hart on Arsenal defeat

Paul Hart felt 'a little aggrieved' that William Gallas was not sent off (to put it mildly) but, once again had praise for his troops who he felt - and I would say rightly for the majority - could come away from the 4-1 defeat with plenty positives as we did not give up, at any stage really.

See Hart's views on Arsenal, the 'sending off' that never was, his views on our performance in general, news on David James' injury and more in this sky sports video below...

I went to Ashburton Grove expecting us to get completely and utterly battered, and I mean battered! I was expecting to see the worst defeat I had ever witnessed but I was 'pleasantly surprised' to be honest...

Blue tints aside, we really should take some positives from this, Arsenal are a fantastic side but 4-1 - whilst not exactly against the run of things, was slightly fortunate.

Bearing in mind I have seen no replays, bar those on the screens (that were shown) I am certain that the 2nd Arsenal goal was offside in the build-up and also feel, even though John Utaka went down fairly easily, that Gallas fouled him and so should have gone!

Most can come out of this with a lot of credit, a small band really - and I mean really - need to look at themselves and decide 'do I really want to be here?'

If that answer is no, then can they please go now and can we please sell them as they are not helping at all!

Freddy P had more support, or offered support from a wide area a lot of the time, so 'if' we can bring that striker ASAP, and it is said that Aruna Dindane is 'a done deal', I will feel happier - as I will when a takeover is finally, 100% done, which is again said to be the case early this week...

Beaten, but not disgraced.

We are pretty much in the position we expected, it is still not to late to turn it around, not by a long shot, but one thing that I know we must do is win our league cup game this week. If we lose to Hereford then we will be at an all time low going into the Citeh game next weekend...

There were definitely a lot more positives to come out of this than our first 2 games, we all knew we weren't in with much chance, in fact I was dreading how bad a defeat it was going to be. At the time the Gallas/Utaka looked a clear professional foul, but having seen it from a different angle on MOTD it may not have been after all. But its no surprise we're all clutching at that, it seems everything is up against us at the moment. Are we supposed not to care? I was hoping that Kranjcar would be shop-windowing himself this season, having clearly declared his intention not to stay at the club, but the lazy article can't be bothered, we should get some money for him while we still can. Then again, nobody's come in for him have they - they can see how lazy he is!

Pompeyrug, you need to watch the replay mate of the Gallas incident, the ref got it spot on..Utaka actually tripped himself up...I was there as well and dont get me wrong for a split second i thought he had taken him out as well,, but the ref was well placed and in line with now seeing it, he made a good decision, even MoTD agreed (and they never come down on our side)...... The second goal was so marginal, then the advantage rightly sits with us.... I did feel that you were lucky to get the goal as I thought and having seen the replay feel a lot of refs would have blown for a foul on almunia......But the ref was well placed again and he made a it counts...... I agree you werent thrashed as perhaps like you, many expected, I met up with Bri Porter, a big pompey fan before the game, hadnt seen him for about 4 years, quick chat and said 3 goals would be the difference and agreed to keep in I hope you dont go down, but you need to sort your situation out sooner rather than later......... Thought your support was excellent and deserve a bit better from your board.....GL for the season.......

i thought utaka was overdoing it too. Seems pointless ranting about one reffing decision when the problem is about playing uber-defensively and STILL losing.

Bassinas, Bassinas, Bassinas...where for art thou, Bassinas?
23/08/2009 15:19:00
I didn't think we were that defensive against Arse.
23/08/2009 21:16:00
Yeah I agree there are alot of positives to be taken out of the game today, all the best against Hereford and Citeh next week.
24/08/2009 02:17:00
What positives? They score their first goal in three games, they only got beaten 4-1, boring defensive football is positive, their strikers couldn't hit a barn from 5 yards, the manager persists with Mullins, there is a week to go in the transfer window and they have no money, Hart will be sacked within a month, their best outfield player took a 90 minute stroll in the sun in an effort to get out. Villa are going to take their best defender this week or their old hairy goalkeeper is out injured.

At what game does the manager accept responsibility for a defeat, the ref, the luck, the cheating opposition at some point someone has to take responsibility for us not scoring more than the opposition. All the teams that go down aren't bad just unlucky; as paultsmouth said after the last game; you make your own luck

I was at the game, and arsenal going forward were brilliant. But i have to disagree that pompey were playing defensively. We got forward plenty of times and had some good chances to score. You can't go to places like The Emirates and play attacking football, it's suicide. I have to admit i was impressed with the display from Portsmouth, 2nd arsenal goal looked offside but i haven't seen replays. The Utaka incident looked a blatant foul and the arsenal guys around me couldn't believe gallas was still on the pitch (i was in the corporate section), but again i haven't seen the replays. The big screen didn't show a replay. Nice to see us score our first goal, boy can Kaboul jump! I went a bit crazy and had to immediately calm down once i realised were i was sitting ;) Fantastic stadium btw, get a great view no matter where you sit. Good support from Pompey supporters, though I did see 1 or 2 people get thrown out...

Utaka was *****e and tripped over his own feet - so never a penalty. Everyone says what a player Wilson is but he was dreadful - a ball-watching defender of the worst kind, he didn't chase back and he didn't close down - he not currently up to it. Without Jamo we'd have lost by 7 or 8. Hart, nice bloke that he is, is totally clueless at this level.
