Goals win games

Goals win games

Of course that is stating the obvious, but unless we score them - and we could have played all day against Fulham at the weekend and not scored I feel - we will not win them...

Paul Hart says that he is 'happy' with his striking options, and maybe, at a push I would agree but for these to be successful we surely need to either play 2 of these strikers together or at the very least have the wide men that are going to get forward and support the lone striker?

Freddy P looked good against Fulham, but I cannot help but feel unless he plays alongside someone he is going to be somewhat wasted?

The guy was not afraid to drop deep in search of the ball and was not afraid to go out wide left or right, the problem was when he did this as he was not playing alongside a striker he had no one to pick out, and he put in some fantastic balls on Saturday that were crying out to be finished...but there was never anyone arriving...

This makes me feel that perhaps in a 4-5-1 system he is better used on one of the flanks?

People say that John Utaka needs a go through the middle, but for me he blew his final chance! Ok, he might not like playing wide but where was his striker's instincts?

If he had these he would have been making runs to the near or far post when it was obvious that is what he needed to do, and when Freddy P did drop deeper, or wide, why was he not moving into his role in a move advanced position...

Sorry but the guy is a waste of space and for me I would without a doubt have him out of the team tonight, depending on where Anthony Vanden Borre comes into the side - assuming he does - I would be seriously tempted to put Paris Cowan-Hall on the right as the kid has pace and ability about him, better still he will be eager to impress.

Can we not swap Utaka for Aruna Dindane? Although Lens are probably not stupid enough to fall for that one!

Speaking of Dindane 'reports' from France, well according to L'Equipe actually, say that the Ivory Coast striker would 'prefer a move to Pompey over a move to Monaco' as he wants to come and play in England.

I say forget about Gavin McCann and Danny Shittu, with funds tight surely we should be using all we have to bring in attacking options, so put that towards Dindane not more defensive midfielders and defenders? Granted we could use another central defender but Aaron Mokoena could do this job and we would still have an abundance of defensive midfielders to cover!

Use that money, scrape it together and put it towards Dindane, surely the more we can offer Lens up front the better chance we have of getting him... Although I still favour the straight swap deal with Utaka!

We are clearly hard to break down, we have that almost perfected but without goals you cannot and will not win games.

As already said we either need someone to play alongside Freddy P or we bring in an out and out striker, a striker that will score goals - goals is what he wants to do - to play up top and move Freddy P to one of the flanks to offer genuine support to this striker in the 4-5-1 formation, with the right striker and right wide men we are not far off having the firepower to utilise that 4-5-1 system successfully.

Now Peter Storrie get that Dindane deal done, do not come back empty handed! Although my main concerns are our lack of finances meaning we cannot offer Lens a deal that are 'acceptable terms'...

Arabian Business reporting a consortium has just bought us! Peter Storrie heading it up and SAF involved too! Immediate capital injection to follow. This could be the twist in the tail we have been waiting for.

Need to get Thierry Henry in! ;) He loves us Pompey supporters! Failing that, Dindane would be sufficient enough to bang in Ze Goals, with the service of Kranky & Belhadj.

We couldn't swap Utaka for a roll of lino at the moment. Get the man out! Put in anyone with an ounce of passion and motivation.
