'If It's Football, It's Vital'

You can stick your money and Carlo up your R's!

'David James is our rock so Spurs can keep their £1m and Carlo Cudicini', not my vote, yours - although these findings from pompeyrug's poll are thoughts that I totally agree with...

The 'word on the street' earlier in the week was that Jamie's Dad, not content with pillaging Pompey as much as he has, wanted to come back once again - this time for James and was looking to offer £1m plus Carlo Cudicini in return. A decent deal some might say, but James is still one of the best around and you cannot replace his quality, command of the area and experience - all of which we will need this season.

Granted Cudicini is a decent keeper and one that probably has deserved to be more than a bit part player for the past decade! Although you also have to ask the question why has this been? Is this because on a long-term regular basis he is not the solution to any teams problems...

We must keep Jamo, he most certainly is our rock and will be instrumental for us this season!

Maybe more worryingly though he has also been 'heavily linked' to Sunderland, with it now confirmed to me that James does have a new girlfriend who is based in Cheshire - so a move to Sunderland 'might' not be as highly unlikely as it seemed?

Either what we just have to hope that he is as committed to staying as he said he was, but more importantly we are as committed to allowing him to stay as we say we are...

  • What the poll asked - Carlo Cudicini and £1m for David James - would you accept?

  • How you voted - Nope, Jamo is our rock 62%, Yep, Cudicini is a fantastic keeper and younger 30%, Does not matter what I think! 8%

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded? You know what to do, thoughts below please guys...

I think Cudici would rather retire than join Portsmouth!! Least you'll be back where you belong next season and if Southampton get promoted you'll have your local derby again, everyones a winner!!

Aah yes, "back to where we belong", this is coming from Spurs fans who clearly feel they follow a 'big club'. Now that Newcastle have been relegated I do believe we have a new winner of the title 'the most deluded fans in the Premier League'. Good luck with the 'Big 4' thing chaps, I think you might need it.

as for jamo, just because spurs fans do not want him this does not mean jamie's dad does not want him - he clearly thinks he is better than cudicini as he talks about james far more than him, and gomes... clearly gomes has improved but once jamie's dad decides 'you are not for him' you do not have a hope, and he will be looking to do all he can to bring in 'his own man' to replace him, we know how the guy works, trust me.

Just a friendly word of caution, Harry has a record of leaving clubs in the financial p**. He did it at Saints and again at Pompey. As far as I can see he has spent almost as much as Man City so far (although nobody seems to mention it!) and is no afraid of some big wages either. Just make sure you tame the spending desires of our twitchy friend. As for going into administration, maybe, but we'll keep behind the team to the very end, that is the only thing for certain.

The only manager around more unreliable than The Ginger Tw@t is Keegan. Dear Spuds fans, you just wait and see what happens - oh and lillywhites101, Arabs, Jews? No difference really . . . . erm, you are aware that you're called, 'the Yids' aren't you? Presumably 101 refers to the number of brain cells you possess.

Jamo is one of the best keepers around, rather him than 1m and Carlo anyday.

How quickly what began as a sensible post was hijacked by the trading of juvenile insults! As a Spurs fan, I genuinely wish Pompey well for the coming season and it gives me no pleasure to see the current turmoil at Fratton Park. There are some financial inaccuracies though when you compare what Harry has spent by comparison with Man City, pompeytim. This close season, it has been clear that 'Arry's had to work within a budget and sell before he can buy to help balance the books. However, you make a good point that he has a clear idea about the players that he likes and if your face doesn't fit ... It always hacks me off to see how quickly the vultures swoop once they smell problems and strip other clubs' assets. The same happened with us at the start of the Sugar era. If it happens once it can always happen again - it always seems that common sense goes out of the window where running a football club's concerned and chairmen start living the dream regardless of the cost, and in the end it's us fans that get left picking up what's left! Getting back to the post, I'd personally rather keep Cudicini and the supposed 1m, but at the time he signed back in January I seem to remember that there was a clause saying he could leave if he wasn't getting regular 1st team action ...

Schotty I was simply referring to the amount Jamie's Dad has spent since he joined White Hart Lane. Close season the amount is obviously not comparable to Man City, but look at what he has spent since he joined compared to City in that time. That was the point I was making. Cheers for the best wishes, we need all we can get right now!

Point taken - there was panic stations when 'Arry arrived, because our PL status was clearly at risk and he identified where the team lacked balance and Levy went out and ate into the budget earmarked for this close season - back to my point about chairmen rushing out to spend what we probably can't afford. It was a gamble at the time which could have backfired spectacularly. Don't know what you guys reckon but it seems, apart from man management, the other thing 'Arry's good at is overhauling a side's balance (providing the funds are available!) Keep the faith guys.

I don't expect this to be true becasue firstly since he adapted to the PL Gomes has been amazing for us and we're not looking to replace him. Added to that Cudiccini is one of the best back-ups in the league and Pompey won't want to sell one of your best, most experienced and consistent players, therefore I think we can write this off as paper talk. On the subject of Redknapss tendancy to bankrupt clubs, though he may have a history of it, Daniel Levy's finances are second to none, and although it does hold back our footballing development (i.e. missing out on quality players by haggling and selling our best players for big money) he does run a very suatainable club by keeping down wage bills and ensuring we live within our means, so there's little chance of things going tits up (financially at least)

I'm not so sure I agree. My feeling is there must be some potential long term concern about Jamo making the season to bring someone like Niemi in as back up with Begovic there... latest I see that Fergie is looking at him to cover for Van Der Saar

(Yourself not included Schotty), it amazes me that with all their money, having pinched our best players and still delusional about being a "BIG" club, we still get hoards of Spurs fans on our site with severe penis envy. If you like coming on here that much, why not just buy a real shirt and support a real team ???

That's the first I've heard of Jamo having a new girlfriend based in Cheshire! That's bad news for us (as if we need any more), because it was the Exeter connection that seemed nailed on to keep him on the south coast. Oh bum!
