==========

BLUES LAND PIQUIONNE

Frederic Piquionne has joined Pompey on a year-long loan from Lyon.

The Blues have an exclusive option to buy the 6ft 2in French striker.

Piquionne, who has one France cap, is renowned for his pace and power.

The 30-year-old joined Lyon for 4.5m last summer after a successful season at Monaco.

Born in the French territory of New Caledonia in the south Pacific, Piquionne began his career with Golden Star in the Caribbean island of Martinique.

From there he joined Nimes Olympique before three years playing for Rennes and another three at fellow French top-flight side Saint-Etienne.

Piquionne, who can also operate in a wide attacking role, made his France debut in a friendly against Austria in March 2007.

Good to have another option up front, even if only on loan. An experienced guy too.

Excellent News, lets hope he settles in quickly and starts to hit the Net from Day 1. Welcome aboard Fred!
bluedr

PompeyFcMad
It's three down Mad .. we have Mokoena & Finnan don't forget .. How do you say this fellas name "Pee-key-on" or "Pick-e-ony"
Chix
When he talked to the Toast team earlier we think he said 'call me Freddy' So that will do for me.
eastneydave
I thought it would be Picky-on or Peeky-on Chix.

penton - I am NOT a shameless name dropper - I show quite a not of shame when dropping names lol

Wow! Wonderful news at last... It seems a very good signing. Now we only need Benjani and Zaki, the latter on loan and sell Nugent and get a decent amount of money or Hunt instead. Beautiful.... Things looking good!
Pompey Malta
so we will call him freddy, right?
pompeyrug
Well, better than a kick in the cobblers as my old mum says.
hammersmithblue
Tell you what...you can't go far wrong with a Fred in your team.
hammersmithblue
And about time too....thank God. I'm so pleased about this, something positive after the past couple of days. So we're gonna call him Freddy then? I suppose even Chix couldn't get his head around a song for PIQUIONNE!
cornypomp
Does that mean we won't be signing David Villa then?

Have i missed something..are we really getting excited by signing a 30 year old forward who has failed in the french league...?and is rated as a 5 on Sky web... Well I hope I am wrong but this just smacks of absolute desperation I am afraid...obviously no one else wants him and the french club get him off their wage bill....It seems to me that its about getting bodies in..anybodies...nobodies...somebodies. I'm sorry but i realy refuse to have Blind faith in this, pleae lets be real about it. Of course it does not mean we wont cheer them on etc...or chant their name..but lets not kid ourselve either..this is a 3rd rate signing at the very best..i doubt many championship sides would take him on the wages he will expect..its a flaming joke, and i am not laughing saying that I am glad he has signed because we are short on players and when we sell Nuge, distan and Krankie we will player... and he may well surprise us...but he won't ..will he? you know and i know it...and everyone else knows it Can any body honestly name a full 11 of good signings from the french league..by that i mean players who have gone on to serve their respective english clubs with distiction...of coiurse their has been Eric and David G...( i do mean not french players from italian teams,or other leagues) i doubt it and this one is both too old and not good enough it seems...1 cap...we seen how effective players with 1 cap can be....

i think its to early to get excited over a player who cant make it in the french league look at what happened to utaka an he was supposed to be good
sickmick
plymouth graham in these times of great dissapointments anything resembling a bit of good news is something to clutch at. got a bit confused with your question about full 11 from the french league? did you mean french players from the french league or just players from the french league or neither? ive confused myself now pup

Given that we've got no money to spend and we badly need strikers, one who is almost international quality but just not quite will do for me. Welcome Freddy and bonne chance!
tracyc
Been out all day just checked the web and can't find any bad news about Pompey! What going on.....?
L L Blue
if he got in the france squad two years ago he must have something about him . with the likes of henry, anelka, bezman, etc his competion
pompeyhussler
Plymouth Graham, the guy was very impressive before he joined Lyon. He just had a bad season with Lyon and is looking for a fresh start. These are the type of players we need - players that are looking to re-make themselves as they will give nothing rather than 100% commitment. You wouldn't say that Benjani is not a very decent striker just because he did not do well while at City right? Same, here mate!
Pompey Malta
i dont think Benji is a good striker..and as for getting one cap against the Henri's etc..it was a friendly..just like Nuge's cap, another not very good striker..i have to sat hussslers selection looks good..did he add Lassie aswell?
plymouth graham
i wouldnt get too excited ladies and gents until you see this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J16f1Z4-IDU poor mans utaka?
prosineckiofcosham
LOL - brilliant video. I'm sure he'll be better than that though
Pompeyscum
to be fair it's one falling over... everyone's done it. I'm just bloody glad we are seeing a player come in the right direction and if you see of the goals he CAN score he's obviously got the confidence... and we still have Utaka... don't we...?
