2009/10 Pompey Predictions League

The Pompey predictions league is always a big success on Vital Pompey - it returns this season and is bigger and better - and I would imagine will include more people - than ever before!

Cash prizes, which will be revealed at a latter date, are on offer on a monthly basis, every month, and of course for the overall winner - as well as 2nd and 3rd places...

This competition only takes place in the forum side of things on Vital Pompey in the Predictions League/Fantasy Football forum - click here.

How to enter...

Welcome to the 3rd annual Pompey Predictions League - many of you will be familiar with the format having taken part in the competition in previous years.

As before this is a very simple idea that will take minimal time and effort, but should be a bit of fun for us throughout the 2009/10 season.

To take part in this simple but effective, yet best of all free idea all you have to do is be a member of this site - sign up here - and be willing to spent a few moments before each game that Pompey play to put forward your prediction on what you think the result will be and who will be its Pompey goalscorers.

The rules...

You will have up until the time of kick-off to get in your predictions - anytime after will not count - with points then accumulated throughout the season.

For each league game Pompey play a new thread within the predictions league forum will be created and you simply give your prediction on these 3 areas:

1) Pompey will win, lose or draw...
2) What the score line will be...
3) Who will score for Pompey...

How the points scoring works...

Points will be scored for correct predictions in each category and will be given as follows:

  • Correctly predicted match outcome = 2 pts.
  • Correctly predicted score line (if you predict a 1-0 Pompey win, if they lose 1-0 it does not count) = 2pts.
  • Correctly predicted goalscorer = 2pts for each correct goalscorer. If you predict that a player will score more than 1 goal you get 2pts for each goal he does score that you correctly predicted.
  • Bonus points: If you are spot on with the exact result, score and goalscorer(s) - and the amount each player scores if you predict they will score more than 1 goal - you also get a bonus of 10pts. If you predict a 0-0 result and this happens this will count and the 10pt bonus given, however you will not receive 2pts for the 'goalscorer' prediction, even though you would technically be right in saying there would not be any.

It is that simple really, even if I make it seem more complex, but for example: For the opening game with Fulham I may go for Pompey to win 2-1 with Primus and Basinas (I say these names as they are the ones that I feel are most likely to still be here come August 15th lol!) scoring. If this happens I would get 2pts for the win prediction, 2pts for the 2-1 score line prediction, 2pts each for the Primus and Basinas scoring predictions (4pts) so 8pts overall - there would also be 10pt bonus for being spot on = 18 pts in total.

Only predictions within the prediction forum will count, anywhere else, even if you are right will not count - you only have until kick-off to register a valid prediction.

Points are carried forward continuously and the member who has the most accumulated points at the end of the competition will be the winner.

Only league games are covered in this game, but I do intend to do a 'spin off' for all league cup and FA cup games as well...

    The prizes...

As with last season 1st, 2nd and 3rd places will all win something, the higher the placing the better the prize - what these prizes are have yet to be confirmed, but something for nothing cannot be bad can it!

And this really is something for nothing, there are no catches.

Manager of the month: To keep this idea of interest to members that may join as the season goes on, although you might not be able to win it outright, you might still have a chance of winning a prize as there will be a monthly cash prize of £5!

Maybe you could save this up until you win a couple of months and then you can select a t-shirt from the Vital Pompey Shop?

    Get involved...

This is quick, easy, effective and best of all free.

It is a bit of fun and should get some banter going, so I hope plenty of you get involved again - what have you got to lose guys?

Afterall it is not as if you are not coming on the site anyway, you arrive in your hundreds every day, so take a slight detour before each game we play and join in to stand the chance of winning something.

This is for fun, but as I know we all like to be a winner 'maybe' if things are very tight towards the end of the season - say the final month - if preferred maybe we can arrange for those 'challenging' to get their predictions to me via a private message? As I say though, this is for fun as much as anything else so I would rather we kept things to the forum only and just followed our heads/hearts with the predictions...

    So who is in?
