We want our Benji back!

We want our Benji back!

'Benjani is the former Pompey favourite that we most want to see return', not my vote, yours - although these findings from jim4pompey's poll are thoughts that I do now completely agree with...

In all honesty when asked about this as little as a few weeks ago I would have had serious reservations, well actually I would have leaned more towards not bringing Benjani back to Fratton.

Now, I would march to Manchester with an army of others to carry him back to Pompey, not that I think this would be needed as if we wanted him I suspect that he would walk back to the South Coast of his own accord!

So, do it Pompey, make that move to bring Benjani home - his effort, commitment and dedication is exactly what we need, and to be fair he is a decent footballer too, worries about injuries and tarnishing his previous spell are cast aside, just go and bring him back!

Whilst we are at it can we also make a bit of a detour and pick up Gary O'Neil...

  • What the poll asked - ON the basis Pies says we're getting an old boy back...who'd you like to see most - realistically?

  • How you voted - Benjani 44%, Andres D'Alessandro 24%, Matt Taylor 20%, Gary O'Neil 10%, Sol (sorry couldn't resist it) 1%, Andy O'Brien 1%

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded? You know what to do, thoughts below please guys...

on balance I might agree here, although it is probably the right midfield we've been least linked with (although apparently we'll offer a deal to pancrate) and therefore it's a very tough one... can I choose three?

if i was greedy i would say d'alessandro, o'neil and benji... as i am not i would settle for o'neil and benji - i think the returns would give us all a lift, even if i wasnt that sure on benji coming back tbh just a short while ago!

I was of the opinion that 'we should never go back' for a past player .. But if Chicken and Behji are willing and available we shouldn't hesitate to snap them up.

Well, I've got to admit to going full circle. I was for a fleeting moment at the height of the takeover mania dreaming of names that I'd like to see at Pompey. But the cold light of day has dawned and with it a reality check. We're brassic and need players that ain't gonna cost a lot but who will play their heart out for the shirt. Enter Benjani....the path is clear.

not too keen because he misses too many..but we all love him and his hard work..i aways felt we should have played him with Defoe, but finances made that impossible...so if we can play him in a 42 with a sharp target man yessssss...but PH is no 442 this season man i fear

Like you, I'm coming round to the idea of old boys returning. I hope I won't be disappointed if Benji does come back.

I think we will see Pompey sign 2 or 3 strikers before watching Nugent head off to Reading in a swap deal with Hunt.

I'm inclined to agree about past players returning but, don't forget, Benji never wanted to leave in the first place and I still remember how awkward and surprised I felt when it was announced he was going. Poor guy. If anyone deserves another crack at Pompey it's him. Also it would make be feel a little better about this season, which, at the moment, I couldn't feel worse about.

And while we're at it I would welcome back Gary O!
